Daffodils

Through learning about Marie Curie, we looked further into the charity work done by the Marie Curie Charity Foundation. We learned how hard they all work to ensure people who are ill, get the care they need and how Marie Curie nurses give care and support to people living with a terminal illnesses.

We decided to draw some daffodils, using different drawing techniques. Here are some pictures of our great art work.

Marie Curie – Posters

Our topic this term has been about an inspirational person who has helped make a change. We have been learning about the famous Marie Curie and  all her inspirational work in science.

We discovered that she helped during World War One and how her invention of the x-ray machine helped save many soldiers lives during the war.

She has been an inspiration to us all and her work has made a huge difference around the world, for many years. Here are some pictures of our posters that we created.

Science

We have been learning a lot about magnetic forces in science. For ICT this week we were able to carry out research about the ‘Maglev Train’ . Through research on Maglev trains we discovered what they were, why we used them and how they work. We have also been learning a lot about directions, magnets and about Marie Curie (a famous scientist) and wanted to do some cool science activities to link it all together.

With our knowledge on magnets we were able to recreate our own version of a Maglev Train. The aim was to make the train move without touching it. Here is a trailer of what we achieved.

From Miss to Mrs

Today we celebrated Miss O’Hagan getting married on Saturday. We celebrated in style by having a mini hen party with games such as dress the bride, throw the bouquet etc. and we wrote some beautiful well wishes and love poems. We wish Miss O’Hagan and her husband to be, Ramsay all the best for their wedding day.

Weekly Evaluation

We have been learning all about apostrophes – contractions and possessions. The contraction apostrophe is when you use an apostrophe to shorten a word for example, ‘we will’ becomes ‘we’ll.’

In Angles we have been learning about North, East, South and West and how to use them in directions using 90degrees, 180degrees, 270degrees and 360degrees.

We have also been learning about money and how to use it.  We have been learning how to add and subtract different amounts of money. This is a very useful skill in every day life.

We continue to work on Fractions of amounts and breaking them down into fifths, eighths etc. and also simplifying them using denominators and numerators.

This is Down’s Syndrome Awareness Week. We have been learning all about this. We have learned that people with Down’s Syndrome have an extra chromosome. Through this learning, we have become more aware that not everyone is the same and that we are all unique.

We continue to learn different strategies to help us in our reading. This is done through skimming and scanning, inference questions, literal questions and prediction. We also read a short story about Rumplestiltskin and talked about facts that are true or false. We continue to read “The Desperate Journey,” by the author Kathleen Fidler and learn more about the Highland Clearances.

For the final week of Storytelling with Ben, we finished this session by telling our own stories about Glasgow and Scotland. We did this by using facial expression, body language, actions and our imagination. As a farewell gift we were given a bottle containing water from the River Clyde, to help us remember the importance of being Scottish and to keep a bit of Scotland with us wherever we go.

Finally, to celebrate poetry  week, we wrote our own shape poems. Shape poems are when you write a poem in a shape of something for example a house, bunny, flower, star, rabbit, or heart etc. This was great fun!

PATHS lesson

Today, Hazel from PATHS came in to deliver a lesson all about our feelings. She spoke to us about how are feelings can look on the outside and the inside. It was really interesting. She then asked us to draw a picture of ourselves and to think about how we look when we are angry. Here are some of our pictures:
