Class assembly

Last week we performed our class assembly in front of the whole school as well as several parents – it was great! It was all about what we have been learning recently, which is all about the Highland Clearances, which took place in Scotland during the 1700s and 1800s. Here are some pictures of us performing.

Class assembly preparation

Over the last couple of weeks we have been preparing for our class assembly, all about the Highland Clearances.

These took place in the Scottish Highlands in the 1700s and 1800s, and forced many people to leave their homes in the Scottish Highlands for the cities or further afield, such as across the Atlantic Ocean to America or Canada.

We have been reading Kathleen Fidler’s novel, ‘The Desperate Journey’, which tells the story of the Murray family and their move to the city of Glasgow before they go on to start a new life in Canada.

We have been learning some Scottish songs that are about this period of history and we have been learning our script too – we can’t wait to show our work to our parents.

Primary 5 update

We have had a busy time of it over the last few weeks.

We were very excited to be given the opportunity to see ‘War Horse’ at the Armadillo in Glasgow. This was a great production by the National Theatre where the horses were puppets led by different puppet master – it was amazing!

Our last week of school before Christmas

Blog entry

Over the last few days we were practising songs for the Nativity. We have practised Little Donkey, Silent Night and Calypso Carol. P4, p4/5 and p5 were practising the nativity for the infants’ Christmas Nativity.

The Nativity was on Monday 17th of December and Tuesday 18th of December. Some of the pupils were wearing fairy lights because they were singing beautifully. P6 and p6/7 decorated the Nativity tickets.

Lots of parents came and kids from nursery and Miss Kinloch’s sister came as well. We even sang Mrs Harker’s favourite Christmas song which is called The twelve days of Christmas.

We also did the raffles. It was fun seeing who was going to win the prizes. The prizes are rajas kids meals and pizzas vouchers and lots of others vouchers and gifts like dolls and lots more.

Our last week of school before the Christmas holidays

We have had a very busy week this week!

We have been learning about the First World War and we had to make poppies and talked  about people that died in the war. For the Turner Prize we had to pick a character who had died in the war and we had to tell the parents and judges the soldier’s birth date and date of death as well as giving information about the person. The First World War started in 1914 and ended in 1918 and many lives were lost.

Some  of  us went to the Christmas market and our parents came too. Aleeza Zamir and Neha Kabir went inside the big snow globe – it was great fun!

Here is a picture of us performing our Expressive Arts piece for the Turner Prize competition.

This week’s learning

Next week we are going to be very busy as we have to make our Northern Lights calendars for the Christmas Fayre. We can’t wait!

We have been learning about St. Andrew today. Today is St. Andrew’s Day. He is the Patron Saint of Scotland. We have made some stained glass windows to show who he is.

This week we went to the museum at Kelvingrove Art Gallery. First of all we went on a treasure hunt looking for certain paintings and special things in the museum. We saw paintings of people  fighting in the  First World  War. We tried to copy some of the artwork ourselves. Here are some examples of our sketches. We had lots of fun on our trip.

Our learning, week beginning 19th November

Hello, my name is Sufyaan and we are learning about World War 1. This week we looked at how soldiers lived in the trenches. The trenches were flooded, messy and disgusting. Some soldiers had to look out for any Jerrys (this is the name that the British gave the German soldiers). We had to make a diary entry of a soldier. We watched the film ‘War Horse’ and it was very interesting. After the movie we watched a Sainsbury’s advert that was all about the Christmas truce between the soldiers that happened in 1914. Here are some pictures of that show us what it was like to live in the trenches – I don’t think I’d like it there!

Our learning, week beginning 12th November 2018

It is a very sad week because Mrs Martin is leaving. Mrs Martin is going to St. Francis school to be the Head Teacher. She has been teaching us for six years. We all went downstairs to surprise Mrs Martin. St Albert’s will miss her a lot. We showed Mrs Martin a video of all of us saying goodbye. She loved the clip because it showed people saying lots about her. She was so happy when she saw the clip. We made a new song that is all about Mrs Martin. Some people gave her gifts. We hope she loved the gifts.

We have also been learning about Remembrance Day. This year is the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War. We have been learning all about what the war was like and we have read a lot about it in the Michael Morpurgo book, ‘War Horse’. We learned all about why the poppy is important. Here is our poppy display. We also wrote prayers of thanks to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the war.

Dyslexia Awareness Week & The Big Sleep Out

This week is Dyslexia Awareness week. Everyone is wearing blue ribbons because it is Dyslexia awareness week. This is a picture of some of us wearing our blue ribbon. Dyslexia means that people find things challenging for them. When they read the words are muddled up and they can’t read what it says. Hanna won the Gold Star this week because of her knowledge and understanding of Dyslexia.

Some of us stayed overnight in the school this week, to raise awareness of homelessness.  I was very fun  and exciting . We looked  for the ghost  but we could  not  find it. Here is a picture of Primary 5 pupils who slept over, looking a bit more tired than usual!

This week’s learning w/b 29th October

This week we have been introduced to PATHS with Hazel.

We have been planning who will be pupil of the day. Our first person of pupil of the day is Aroush.

PATHS mean being nice and friendly to everyone. When you are pupil of the day you get to have a spinning chair and a pupil of the day badge.

People need to say nice things about you and then say something about your self if you’re pupil of the day. Miss O’Hagan  will put your name on a poster with a sticky note.
