This week’s learning

Next week we are going to be very busy as we have to make our Northern Lights calendars for the Christmas Fayre. We can’t wait!

We have been learning about St. Andrew today. Today is St. Andrew’s Day. He is the Patron Saint of Scotland. We have made some stained glass windows to show who he is.

This week we went to the museum at Kelvingrove Art Gallery. First of all we went on a treasure hunt looking for certain paintings and special things in the museum. We saw paintings of people  fighting in the  First World  War. We tried to copy some of the artwork ourselves. Here are some examples of our sketches. We had lots of fun on our trip.

Our learning, week beginning 19th November

Hello, my name is Sufyaan and we are learning about World War 1. This week we looked at how soldiers lived in the trenches. The trenches were flooded, messy and disgusting. Some soldiers had to look out for any Jerrys (this is the name that the British gave the German soldiers). We had to make a diary entry of a soldier. We watched the film ‘War Horse’ and it was very interesting. After the movie we watched a Sainsbury’s advert that was all about the Christmas truce between the soldiers that happened in 1914. Here are some pictures of that show us what it was like to live in the trenches – I don’t think I’d like it there!

Our learning, week beginning 12th November 2018

It is a very sad week because Mrs Martin is leaving. Mrs Martin is going to St. Francis school to be the Head Teacher. She has been teaching us for six years. We all went downstairs to surprise Mrs Martin. St Albert’s will miss her a lot. We showed Mrs Martin a video of all of us saying goodbye. She loved the clip because it showed people saying lots about her. She was so happy when she saw the clip. We made a new song that is all about Mrs Martin. Some people gave her gifts. We hope she loved the gifts.

We have also been learning about Remembrance Day. This year is the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War. We have been learning all about what the war was like and we have read a lot about it in the Michael Morpurgo book, ‘War Horse’. We learned all about why the poppy is important. Here is our poppy display. We also wrote prayers of thanks to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the war.

Dyslexia Awareness Week & The Big Sleep Out

This week is Dyslexia Awareness week. Everyone is wearing blue ribbons because it is Dyslexia awareness week. This is a picture of some of us wearing our blue ribbon. Dyslexia means that people find things challenging for them. When they read the words are muddled up and they can’t read what it says. Hanna won the Gold Star this week because of her knowledge and understanding of Dyslexia.

Some of us stayed overnight in the school this week, to raise awareness of homelessness.  I was very fun  and exciting . We looked  for the ghost  but we could  not  find it. Here is a picture of Primary 5 pupils who slept over, looking a bit more tired than usual!

This week’s learning w/b 29th October

This week we have been introduced to PATHS with Hazel.

We have been planning who will be pupil of the day. Our first person of pupil of the day is Aroush.

PATHS mean being nice and friendly to everyone. When you are pupil of the day you get to have a spinning chair and a pupil of the day badge.

People need to say nice things about you and then say something about your self if you’re pupil of the day. Miss O’Hagan  will put your name on a poster with a sticky note.
