Weekly Evaluation

We have been learning all about apostrophes – contractions and possessions. The contraction apostrophe is when you use an apostrophe to shorten a word for example, ‘we will’ becomes ‘we’ll.’

In Angles we have been learning about North, East, South and West and how to use them in directions using 90degrees, 180degrees, 270degrees and 360degrees.

We have also been learning about money and how to use it.  We have been learning how to add and subtract different amounts of money.This is a very useful skill in every day life.

We continue to work on Fractions of amounts and breaking them down into fifths, eighths etc. and also simplifying them using denominators and numerators.

This is Down’s Syndrome Awareness Week. We have been learning all about this. We have learned that people with Down’s Syndrome have an extra chromosome. Through this learning, we have become more aware that not everyone is the same and that we are all unique.

We continue to learn different strategies to help us in our reading. This is done through skimming and scanning, inference questions, literal questions and prediction. We also read a short story about Rumplestiltskin and talked about facts that are true or false. We continue to read “The Desperate Journey,” by the author Kathleen Fidler and learn more about the Highland Clearances.

For the final week of Storytelling with Ben, we finished this session by telling our own stories about Glasgow and Scotland. We did this by using facial expression, body language, actions and our imagination. As a farewell gift we were given a bottle containing water from the River Clyde, to help us remember the importance of being Scottish and to keep a bit of Scotland with us wherever we go.

Finally, to celebrate poetry  week, we wrote our own shape poems. Shape poems are when you write a poem in a shape of something for example a house, bunny, flower, star, rabbit, or heart etc. This was great fun!
