Transforming Learning within Fife Schools 2025-2028

Transforming Learning Fife

Transforming Learning Fife will provide staff and P6 to S6 learners across the entire region with 1:1 devices to transform the ways we engage with teaching, learning and assessment. In time, this will provide enhanced experiences, improve outcomes, develop vital skills and nurture individual creativity.  As children approach P6 parents/carers can opt in or out of this digital device offer.

Visit the Vision – Transforming Learning in Fife for further information.

There is a very useful ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ section that we suggest having a look at as well:  Frequently Asked Questions – Transforming Learning in Fife.

Screentime

We understand concerns around the amount of time children spend on screens and believe that a “balanced digital diet” is important.  The following document:  Understanding screen time: helps to break down “screentime” into active and passive categories.  When the transforming learning i-pads are engaged it will be for active learning.

At Tayport Primary School

Promoting high-quality learning and teaching through the effective use of digital technologies is a strategic priority within our 2025/2026 School Improvement Plan and will continue over the next 3 years.

Please be reassured that children will continue to be taught handwriting, use pencils and jotters across the curriculum and will continue to develop all the meta-skills required for future success.  All our teachers use Fife’s progression pathways to plan progressive learning in all curricular areas.

This is year one of “transforming learning” at Tayport PS, and we would like to share some of the actions we are taking:

  • Create a dedicated “Digital Hub” within the school for groups and whole class use, thus improving access to our current stock of digital devices. In addition, all classrooms will have the latest interactive SmartScreens installed.
  • Teacher professional learning is very high on the agenda and we recognise that the coming year will be about digital skill acquisition trailing new ways to further engage our learners.  “Showbie” will be introduced to classrooms following teacher professional learning.  This is a powerful digital tool that has the potential to help us deliver even more inclusive, consistent, and research-informed teaching across all classes.    Click here to find out more.
  • Explicit teaching of essential digital skills to all P5-P7 children in term 1, always focusing on expected online safety and behaviour.  This has reflected in our refreshed Digital Charter: Charter
  • P5-7 homework will be accessed from a class Glow Team with some online educational games for numeracy practice [please note these fit into the “learn and create” digital diet].
  • Appoint a group of P5-7 children to be our new Digital Leaders they will support peers and adults.
  • Assign a group of teachers to an ‘Impact Team’ tasked to drive forward this priority across the school.  This will include updating our current teaching and learning policy with agreed use of digital technologies and multi-media across the school.
  • A Digital Guidance for Families pack is currently under development.
  • Begin the steps towards gaining the Digital Schools Award for Primary.  This is informing our digital strategy which in turn will evolve into our Digital Policy, by 2028.

Term 2 – 2025:

Current P6 and P7 families have opted in/out to the 1:1 device offer.

P6&P7 Parent/Carer information session on Teams on: Wednesday 12th November on Teams – 5 – 5:30 pm.  A link will be emailed nearer the time.

During both Pupil Progress Evenings (20th and 25th November) the Digi-Hub will offer drop in sessions for all parents/carers.

11 December – P6&P7 i-pads to be deployed and introduced in classrooms.   It is likely i-pads will come home at the start of term 3 (January 2026).

Learners are actively engaged as leaders of learning, contributing meaningfully to the digital transformation of our school community.

Below is a photo of our current team of Digital Leaders, who are at the forefront of driving forward our digital improvement work and supporting the development of digital literacy across the school.
