ASC Routines and Resources

Timetables

All classes follow a strict symbolised timetable. Some pupils may also have an individualised timetable.

Circle Time

All classes start the day with Circle Time. At their individual level, pupils can express their emotions and ask their friends how they are feeling. Symbols and signing are used to support this.

Snack Time

All classes have a Snack Time before lunch. A range of healthy snacks are provided or can be sent in from home. Pupils can learn to sit together, socialise and tidy up.

Movement Time

All classes complete a Movement Time which focuses on gross motor skills to a range of popular songs.

Independent Jobs

All classes aim to focus on activities that pupils can complete independently. This is consolidation of lots of repetition and over-learning. This also gives pupil’s a sense of achievement.

Emotion Works

All classes use the programme Emotion Works to help learn and understand about emotions. This is supported by symbols and signing.

Learning

Individualised targets are set for each pupil which inform your child’s learning and help us to plan activities. All areas of the Curriculum for Excellence are experienced. Smaller class sizes allow for 1 to 1 and small group teaching. We aim to teach engaging and relevant lessons to capture pupil’s interests.

PECs

We use PECS (Picture Exchange Communication) for pupil’s who need further support with communication.

Signalong

We use Signalong for sign-supported communication. This is used throughout the day to support communication such as giving instructions, singing and for individual needs.

Boardmaker

We use BoardMaker for symbols. This is used, again, throughout the day to support communication.

Total Communication Approach

Through the use of PECs, Signalong, BoardMaker and verbal language, we are able to offer a total communication approach for our pupils.
