Friday 23rd June 2022

This week we have been writing our twisted fairy tales. They are great and we have used lots of super description.

We have been playing some numeracy games to practise our addition/subtraction/multiplication and division. We also learnt about area today.

We have learnt about some of the body’s major organs and made an information leaflet about 3,4 or 5 of them.

In PE we played bench ball because of the rain on Tuesday and today had a go at some cricket skills and played a modified game.

We have been preparing something for Mrs Beat and planned what we wanted to write on Tuesday and then wrote it up neatly and decorated it on Wednesday.

We finished our class novel, The Wild Robot and were very keen to start the next in the series even though we won’t get it finished!

P3/4 Friday 16th June 2023

This week we have all delivered our presentations on a hobby, interest or club. Everyone did a fantastic job and it was great finding out more about everyone’s achievements.

We did an outdoor learning task where, in pairs, children had to build a tower out of sticks, stones, leaves or grass. The tallest tower won. There were lots of creative ideas and children worked very well together.

In Numeracy, we did some learning on working out how much time had passed. We also did a bit of revision on adding costs and multiplying and dividing.

We are going to be writing a twisted fairy tale next week so this week we have read some and thought about how we could put our own twist to a fairy tale.

We have been doing activities to gain points for Sports Day. We did the Trim Trail Challenge, a Beetle Drive, Bench Ball, Target Zone and a Sports Quiz. It has all been great fun. Everyone did so well today in the Sports Day races!

Miss Amy has a  book about record-breaking animals and their skeletons. We had to read about the animal, look at their skeleton and try and work our what it was. A Blue Whale has the largest bone on the planet and the Peregrine Flacon has the lightest.

P3/4 Friday 9th June 2023

This week the P4s have become the teachers, teaching the P3s about the skeleton. We learnt what the skeleton does and some of the names of the bones like the femur, tibia and ulna.

We have had races this week to see who will race from P3/4 in the relay on Sports Day.

We were asked by Betty and Sarah, who are helping to organise the Rag Tag Parade at the Newport Festival, to make posters to advertise it. It is a competition so we are excited to find out who has won.

We have been learning a lot about time. For example, we have learnt the 24-hour clock and digital clocks.

We drew animals last week and have been collaging them this week with newspapers and magazines. They look great.

We have been working on our own presentations this week. They are about a hobby, interest or club. We are presenting them on Monday.

We have done reading comprehensions this week.

Last Saturday we loved doing our fashion show at the V&A! We were amazing!!

Friday 2nd June 2023

We have been playing rounders in PE. We have improved our team working skills and are fielding a lot better.

We have been learning about time. We have been learning o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. Some of us and been telling the time in 5-minute intervals. Some of us have moved on to the 24-hour clock and digital time.

We have been writing our own African Folktale stories about how animals got their features. We had to include a description of our animal before its features changed and also the setting. We also had to think of another animal that tricked them or think of a twist in the story.

I art, we drew either a bear, a zebra or a elephant using YouTube videos to help. We have now started using newspapers and magazines to collage them.

We have done a dress rehearsal for our fashion show which is tomorrow at the V&A. All of our outfits look fantastic, as do our posters and the children who are commentating have done brilliantly too.

In French, we were learning the vocabulary for animals and then making posters or PowerPoint presentations about the ones we like and don’t like. We used the language we learnt last week.

Friday 26th May 2023

We have been learning how to jump over hurdles and they have been getting higher.

We have made posters for the Trashion Show. We had to include a picture, a fast fashion fact and a solution.

We have started writing a discussion about either the advantages and disadvantages of zoos, pets or school uniform. We got to choose which one we wanted to do and discussed what we would write in small groups.

We have revised doubling and halving bigger numbers. We had a chilli challenge and could choose between 1, 2 or 3 chillies. 3 chillies is the hardest challenge.

The P4s have been working hard on their e-portfolios. We are looking forward to showing you them on Monday. The P3s made presentations on an endangered animal.

At the beginning of the week we were learning about grams and kilograms!

With Miss Allan we learnt about Road Safety and calendars.

Yesterday we also did the whole school Daily Mile.

 

P3/4 Friday19th May 2023

This week we are so pleased to have finished making our outfits for the V&A fashion show!  They look amazing!

We have been writing another Discussion about the advantages and disadvantages of computer games and tablets.

In PE, we have been learning how to do the hurdles and the long jump.

In Maths, we have been making What Am I quizzes on PowerPoint all about 3D shapes. We had to write the clues and then reveal the answer using the animation settings. Today we were estimating and weighing using balance scales and digital scales.

In French, we were learning how to say what sports we like and what sports we don’t like.

P3/4 Friday 12th May 2023

This week we have been learning how to write a discursive piece of writing. You need to write about both sides of an argument and then give your opinion. We learnt about the advantages and disadvantages of wind farms. We used sentence starters like ‘Firstly’ and ‘On the other hand’. We used connectives like because and so to give more details.

In PE, we continued to practise our throwing skills and this week learnt how to hold and throw a discus. It was quite tricky but we all managed well.

In Maths, we looked at the properties of 3D shapes. We counted the faces, edges and vertices of different 3D shapes.

In Numeracy, we were comparing fractions using greater than, less than and equals signs.

We have loved starting out sewing projects. So far, groups have made 2 pairs of shorts, 2 dresses, a hand bag and a sequin top! Thank you again to our parent helpers.

As part of out Get Active learning we have been learning the ‘Sid Shuffle’ together. It feels really good to learn a new skill and it has made us smile and laugh a lot!

P3/4 28th April 2023

This week we have been learning about fractions of shapes and of amounts. We danced and sang along with a funny fractions song from BBC Bitesize!

We wrote a newspaper article about Miss Amy witnessing aliens landing in the playground!

We have been working on editing our writing using colour marking and reading it aloud to a partner to check for missing punctuation.

As part of our topic, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, we have been collecting used crisp packets at breaktimes and then turning them into bracelets! They look very cool and are helping the environment.

We have been learning about healthy foods and which foods give us more energy over a longer period of time. They are called slow-release carbohydrates. We made a healthy meal plan for a day with lots of slow-release carbohydrates and fruit and vegetables. We also included proteins and dairy products but not as much of those.

As part of the Get Active whole school topic we have been keeping an Activity Diary. We have increased our activity levels this week by doing a Trim Trail Challenge, Running a Mile and dancing!

In Art, we made an underwater scene using oil pastels and water colour paints. This was inspired by the books we read on plastics in the oceans being unsafe for the marine life.

We have also learnt about the reduced numbers of bees and how we help to increase their population. We planted wild flowers in the school garden.

P3/4 Friday 24th March 2023

In Literacy, we learnt the difference between a fact and an opinion. We wrote a fact and an opinion about different topics like popstars or food.

We have also been learning about the features of a newspaper article. We are going to write an article about Newport’s Got Talent. We have written a headline, listed the 5Ws and interviewed the people who took part to get quotes.

In PE, we have been practising our ball and racket skills with tennis rackets. This afternoon we were trying to rally with a partner.

We did a fun team building activity with the P2/3s. We had to stand in a big circle, holding hands and had to pass a big hoop around the circle without letting go of each other’s hands! Each group did very well.

In Numeracy, we have been using multiplication grids to multiply a single digit by a 2-digit or 3-digit number.

We had our last party planning session this week for our Easter party next week. We are all sorted and looking forward to it!

Friday 17th March 2023

This week we have been writing, decorating and making some lovely Mother’s Day treats! We hope you enjoy them!

We wrote Kennings poems about different animal and had to guess who had written about what!

We have been doing lots of times tables work this week!

In Drama, we took a scene from our class novel and acted it out, thinking about how to show the different character’s personalities.

We have started planning our Easter party in groups. We each have to plan a certain aspect of the party and have a budget to buy any things that we need. We are very excited about it!  We have been thinking about our communication and cooperation skills.

In Health and Wellbeing, we have been talking about our worries and that we shouldn’t let them build up. It’s important to talk about them and try to work through them. We made ‘worry monster’ stones that we can use to keep us calm or put somewhere to let someone know we would like to share a worry.

We did Red Nose Day yoga today! We loved the Talent Show. EVERYONE WAS AMAZING!
