This week we have been learning about fractions. We have identified halves, thirds, quarters and more. We have shown different fractions with Lego pieces and have found fractions of amounts.

In Literacy, we reviewed the verb ‘to be’ and how it changes. We learnt that we use ‘is’ for singular and ‘are’ for plural.

We have been practising our typing skills and typed up our descriptions on Word. We are able to change the font and size and underline. We can also copy and paste an image from the internet.

In PE, we played rounders, working as a team to try and win.

In Loose Parts, we created dens like in our class novel ‘The Wilderness War’.

In Art, we have designed a whole class collage for the Rights Respecting Committee’s World Ocean Day competition. We have chosen an under the sea theme and we are going to use litter and rubbish to create the collage. We want to show that litter and rubbish are destroying ocean wildlife and that we need to do something about it.

In Health and Wellbeing, P3 discussed different ways to stay safe and what we can do if we don’t feel safe. P4 learnt about how new life is made. P3/4 also looked at ‘cool’ responses to situations and how our feelings can affect the way we respond. A ‘cool’ response deals with a situation calmly and people will respect us more for responding this way rather than being avoidant or aggressive.

In Social Studies, we used Google maps to explore our local area and look at what the land is used for in our local area. We found schools, housing, shopping, roads, farm land, hospitals, recreation like golf, skateparks and football pitches. We discussed why a city might build up and what a city needs as oppose to a town like Newport. We found out that Dundee built up because it was on a river and businesses were able to trade in and out on boats. Factories were built to make jute that could be sold on. Houses were built in Newport for the factory owners who had lots of money and didn’t want to live near the factories! They used to travel over to Dundee on boats each day.
