Congratulations to the girls of Back and Tolsta who last night won their Netball competition in the Lewis Sports Centre in style! This session there were not enough girls in Sgoil a’ Bhac to make two teams for Netball and so an invitation was extended to the P6-7 girls in Tolsta School to join them. Six girls from Tolsta joined the Sgoil a’ Bhac girls weekly for Netball coaching and practice and new friendships were formed over the course of the session. When it came time to enter the annual Netball Competition in the Sport and Health Team’s calendar two mixed teams comprising the girls from Back and Tolsta were entered. To our amazement and utter delight the teams took 1st and 2nd place in the competition. A massive well done to BTTB and the BT Bone Crushers. We also wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to the three coaches of the teams Angela Mackay, Margaret Macritchie and Norma Maciver who give up their time every Wednesday afternoon to coach the girls and put them through their paces. Well done ladies. Your efforts have helped to ensure that the pupils from Tolsta Primary School experience success along with their Sgoil a’ Bhac friends.
Well done to Sarah Maciver and Francesca Greenstock who competed in the Young Musicians competition. Congratulations to Henry Greenstock who won his category in the competition and to Elizabeth Greenstock who won the overall primary competition. We are very proud of them all for having the courage to take part in such an event.

Malcolm Macdonald came to tell us more about the Iolaire.
Tolsta War Memorial
Lewis War Memorial
Primary 5-7 have been working hard learning about World War One and the Iolaire. We enjoyed a visit by Malcolm Macdonald who is writing a book about the Iolaire and we had a trip to visit the Lewis and Tolsta War Memorials and the Iolaire Memorial.
The second cross country race of this season took place on the 20th of January. Pictured above are the runners from Tolsta School. As ever the pupils performed very well on the day. The Under 9 Girls came away with a second place, the Under 11 Girls got a first, second and third! We also got a first in the Under 11 Boys and a second in the Under 13 girls.
We are hugely proud of all our pupils taking part in these races and wish them all the best for the final race of the season in February.
On Saturday 11th November 2017, a good crowd gathered at the War Memorial in North Tolsta to remember those from the villages of North Tolsta and New Tolsta who had paid the ultimate sacrifice. Laying the wreath on behalf of Tolsta School were Abigail Macleod (P7) and Hamish Thomson (P6).
