P5 sport their Brownies & Cubs uniforms

Primary 5 enjoyed wearing their Brownies and Cubs uniforms today.

P5a

“What I like about Cubs is we are allowed to do games and also do some challenges.  Sometimes we go to places cutting thorns and other outdoor activities. I love being part of Cubs because we learn really important life skills.” Marcus

“I like Brownies because we get lots of badges if we complete certain activities. Some of my friends from school go too and I like seeing them outside of school.  My favourite part about the club is the arts and crafts.” Louise

P5c

“I like going to cubs because we do activities that we wouldn’t do anywhere else. I like playing diamond football and the port and starboard game.” Paul

“I like being a part of the Brownies club because we have a lot of fun. We do arts and crafts. I also like drawing.” April

PE- Tennis:

We have just started a block of tennis skills during our PE time! On Friday we began with practising our technique with partners and then individually. Have a look below:

Numeracy: Kahoot

We love playing Kahoot in teams and have regularly being incorporating these into our Mental Maths!

STEM: Engineering

Today we took part in an Engineering workshop! We began by thinking about what we already knew about the job of an engineer before thinking about the skills that an engineer would need to have. We will be taking part in a competition to try and win an Engineering Award! In the coming weeks we will begin our entries for this exciting competition.

We then took part in this Diamond Nine activity in which we decided which skills we felt were the most important in being an engineer!

Burns Day:

Have a look at the lovely tartan we wore for our Burns assembly and Ceilidh a few weeks ago!

St Ninians: P5A and B

We took part in a range of activities across different stations when we went to St Ninians! Have a look below.

Have a lovely February weekend everyone!

P5a have been getting creative!

Knex Christmas Challenge

Today we worked in groups to create a Christmas themed model from Knex.  We discussed in our teams what parts of each model we would make and then put them together! Have a look below:

Eilish created Santa’s sleigh!

Niamh, Andrew, Rachel and Joshua created Santa’s boot getting stuck down a chimney!

Emma and Cameron created a Christmas tree!

Well done Primary 5A!

Clay Ornaments

We created our own clay ornaments shaped into different Christmas shapes. We created Christmas trees, snowmen, stockings and candy canes. We then pained and decorated them.

A friendly reminder that tomorrow is Christmas party day so remember to wear your party clothes! Christmas Jumper day will be on Friday! Merry Christmas to everyone!!

Primary 5A

First News:

P5a loved reading First News this week which will now be part of our weekly reading!

Van Gogh: Art

We have been enjoying learning about Van Gogh this week in Art! Have a look at the fantastic Starry Night pictures that we created today. We practised our techniques and then used oil pastels to create our pictures!

Sports Leaders: Football Session

We had a fantastic sports session on Monday with St Ninian’s sports leaders who played football games and taught us a range of different skills. Have a look below:

Numeracy Fun!

We loved trying out a new Numeracy game ‘Times table Rock stars”. It is a fun interactive game which is helping us to practise our multiplication and division facts!

China presentations:

We have loved hearing everyone’s presentations on China! Thank you for all of the hard work that was put in to them. Everybody did a fabulous job!

Outdoor Learning:

We consolidated the Numeracy we had been learning in class by taking our fractions work outside! Have a look below. We created improper fractions, equivalent fractions and mixed numbers!

Primary 5A

We have had such a busy week back after the October holiday!

STEM

This week in Science, we were learning about chemical changes through a Halloween themed lesson using pumpkins. We started by writing a hypothesis and predicting what we thought would happen when we mixed different substances together and then poured them into our pumpkins.

Some of us thought that the pumpkin would explode and some of us thought it might even change colour!

We found that when the reactants were mixed together, it created a chemical reaction causing the mixture to bubble up and overflow from the pumpkin! We had so much fun!

Outdoor Learning

We were creating beautiful artwork using natural materials in outdoor learning! Have a look below:

PE

We started basketball in PE today and loved practising their skills in the Mugga! We had a go at shooting as well.

Primary 5a

Today we participated in Reciprocal Reading. Each pupil took on one of five roles and within their group took turns to carry out their role. We showed our understanding of the text being read by asking a range of questions and using context clues to read unfamiliar words! We applied our knowledge of reading strategies to summarise, predict, question and clarify meanings! Pupils enjoyed leading their own learning!

Reciprocal Reading

Art & Technology

We have been creating a collaborative Chinese dragon using our art and technology skills. Today we began the process of painting the body of the dragon before it is put together in a 3D model! Well Done P5!

Check out what Primary 5a have been doing this week!

It is the end of another busy week in Primary 5a! We have enjoyed our second week of swimming lessons and have been enjoying a range of activities as part of Maths week!

Visitor

We were very lucky to have a special visitor today- local business owner Mrs Capaldi. She spoke to us about how important Maths is within everyday life, particularly when running a successful business.

Outdoor Learning

We have been learning in Numeracy about symmetry of shapes and coordinates. We created our own coordinate grids using bark and sticks.

Cillian said “We looked for different materials and we saw different types of plants. We used them to make the grid.”

Literacy

We have been focusing on developing characters to make our writing more interesting. We have been considering how we can make characters come to life. We had different stations. Some of us highlighted descriptive language by authors, some of us watched a video clip and took notes on the authors description while some of us created a life size character!

Christopher said: “We drew round Gavin and then created a huge character which we named and gave a personality to.”

Social Studies & Literacy

We have been working in partners to research different aspects of Chinese culture as part of our topic. We have been note-taking and are in the process of creating a leaflet.

Eilish said: “We made a leaflet by first researching on the chromebooks information about China and then wrote down important information to include in our leaflet”.

VR Headsets

We loved trying out the VR headsets this afternoon!

Special Achievements

Well Done to Orla for winning a trophy in Irish dancing! What an achievement!

Cameron visited the Emirates arena to watch professional tennis players training for their games this weekend. Cameron managed to get Jamie Murray to sign his top! Well Done Cameron.

Welcome back Primary 5A!

Primary 5A have all settled well into the year and are enjoying the new routines of P5. Have a look what we have been up to this week:

STEM

We have been learning about materials and the way that they can change into different substances. This week we had 5 different stations that we visited to learn more about changing substances: melting chocolate, melting and freezing ice cubes, dissolving salt in water, a video station and a worksheet station!

Alice said: “I liked the chocolate station because we got to heat the chocolate and see it melting.”

Marcus said: “I also liked the chocolate melting station because it was like cooking. I liked seeing solids becoming liquids!”

Kamran said: “I liked watching the TigTags videos which were about dissolving and making substances change.”

Rachel said: “I liked the salt experiment because you got to see the salt dissolving in the water, it was quicker with warm water. The worksheet station was good because you had to discuss in your group what you thought made the substance change.”

Have a look at some of the pictures below:

Writing

This week we have been learning to write a personal recount. We wrote about our favourite days and focused on using excellent sentence openers, wow words and including detail in our writing.

Technologies

We have been enjoying using a range of technology since we came back to school! We have been learning how to use Google Classroom and having fun editing documents together and answering questions. We also have been incorporating Education City into each of our Numeracy lessons to reinforce the concept we are learning in a fun and interactive way.

Social Studies

Our new topic is China! We are excited to learn all about the culture, schooling system and geography. We have decided as a class what we want to learn and so far have drawn the panda (as it is Native to China) in Expressive Arts and began researching China through Technologies.

Friendly Reminder

A friendly reminder that swimming begins next Tuesday morning!
