Term 3 in 2B

2b Class Blog

Our last term is an exciting one with lots of new experiences and opportunities to reinforce previous learning. Our interdisciplinary theme across learning is Community, there will be opportunities to explore the local community as well as invite the community into school. In doing so, we will develop skills across Literacy, ICT, Social Studies and Skills for Life, Learning and Work.

There are also other skills to be learned across the curriculum. 2b have identified some of these below.

Writing

We have been learning to write recounts of what we’ve done in the past. We have written about ourselves at the Riverside Museum and our Easter holidays. Jessica says “ I find it hard to use some of the bigger words but I’m getting better.” We will be writing comic strips and plays later in the terms.

Health & Wellbeing, and P.E.

In  our health lessons we have been learning about healthy food using the Eatwell Plate. We designed a healthy lunchbox with healthy food from each of the food groups. Ava said “I found carbohydrate and protein hard to spell but now I know which foods go in which group.

In PE we have been playing basketball and athletics. Heather said “We were learning to shoot into the net and pass the ball. The ball hit me, I need to catch it next time and keep my hands up!” Megan enjoyed the races against the other houses, “We were learning to be athletic”.

Science

We have been learning about germs and viruses. Lawson has learned “that germs can move”. Angus learned that “some germs make us ill and some germs are good”. Lara knows that “germs are so small you can’t see them”. We will investigate more diseases and ways to keep our bodies healthy.”

Music

We have been learning about different types of music. Finlay says “we have been learning about Blues music. We have picked out instruments.” Rory can tell the class how he feels when he hears music. We will be exploring different types of music throughout the term.

ICT & Technologies

We have been learning about cells on a spread sheet in Excel. Megan said “we wrote in the cells what snacks we have.” We have been playing at programming Spheros, coding it to move and change the colour of the light. We have been making LED animations on Microbits. Olivia said “our animation was a loveheart with a forever loop”.

RME

Harriet said “we learned about a little boy who had God’s message”. In RME we will be exploring the life and stories of the Prophet Muhammad. Megan and Olivia said “we shouldn’t draw him because it’s disrespectful”.

Achievements

Four achievements we would like to celebrate are:

Angus achieved his Orange belt in Karate.

Cory cycled 5km on his bike.

Rory has been helping at home and makes his bed by himself. He promises to do it every day now.

Rosa’s writing is improving and she has been working on a story which she is very proud of.

We are so proud of everyone’s achievements. Well done!

Riverside Museum

Here are a few pictures from our Riverside Museum trip. This learning experience was an excellent end to our Transport topic, the children returned excited about all of the vehicles, activities and facts. Ava wrote a fantastic recount to tell everyone about it.
