December in 2B

Throughout the last month we have been learning a lot of new skills. Planning and rehearsing for the Nativity has been a huge focus for us and an excellent opportunity for new learning experiences across RME, Expressive Arts, Talking and Listening, and Health & Wellbeing.

Expressive Arts

We all experienced the energy and excitement of performing and being part of an audience. We were not just an audience in the Nativity but we also enjoyed being part of the audience for the Wizard of Oz pantomime. Zaynah said, “It was very funny”. Megan and Jude, as well as all the children, enjoyed taking on their roles and working on expression and using their voice. We also learned more about performing in our Rainforest Documentary, which demonstrated our learning across the curriculum. In Term 2 our focus will shift to Dance and Music.

Health & Wellbeing

The confidence and perseverance we showed during the rehearsal and performance is just one example of our Growth Mindset. Lara said, “It’s important to keep trying when you practise anything because that’s how to get better”. We all experienced contributing to a communal school performance.

Science

Beyond the Nativity we have learnt more about Materials, we have explored waterproof and absorbent materials to make an umbrella for Chester. Lawson said, “I learnt about reversible and irreversible changes by making pizza dough and reindeer food”. Next term we will learn more about Forces.

Writing

As part of Literacy across the curriculum we used our exploration in Science to write instructions for different purposes, a recipe for pizza dough, and instructions for reindeer food and play dough. Christopher and Ava produced particularly good instructions. They both said that doing the process first helped them write the recipe. In Term 2 we will focus on poetry, letters and leaflets.

ICT

“Hour of Code was awesome” (Harrison). After learning a variety of programming skills and computational thinking we had the chance to make our own flappy bird game. We are learning to be creative and to debug our code.

Social Studies

Next term, across the curriculum and Social Studies, we will learn more about transport today and in the past, as well as significant individuals such as the Wright Brothers and Robert Louis Stevenson.

Literacy and Numeracy

Our learning in these areas will draw upon the contexts listed above but will differ according to the needs of each class / group. Your support with consolidation of core learning through homework activities will be very beneficial to our children.

Busy Bees in Primary 1

We have been so busy in Primary 1. We have been learning to be responsible and follow the different routines in our classroom, this has been a bit tricky.

We have made lots of new friends and we play together in the playground and in the classroom. Rachael says,”we make sure we include everybody.” Megan says, “we share and take turn at the Puppet Show.”

As part of Social Studies we have had visitors telling us about how they help us. Graham the lollipop man told us how to cross the road safely. He took us out to the road and had to use his STOP sign to stop the traffic so we could cross safely.

We were extremely proud of running our mile and putting our sticker on the map.

At Talking and Listening time, Primary 1 came together to share their ‘Awesome Achievements.’ We are so talented and have been helping at home, making cakes, practising our writing and riding our bikes.
