STEAM FAIR WEEK

This week Williamwood High School hosted a STEAM Fair where the Primary children were encouraged to go along to see many different Science, Technology  Art and Technology stalls and workshops.

Caleb went and he loved it.

Two of our P6 girls entered the fashion show and we will post some fab pictures of them next week! Well done Isla and Katie!! Great effort.

“There was a real tarantula and at the same stall there was also a turtle and a duck that bit me! I enjoyed the maths stage which was like Who wants to be a millionaire? There were lots of questions  which were very hard but some I could answer too. I thought it was an amazing night and I am sad that I missed the fashion show.”

The children have done well this week getting back into routine after the holiday and have been creating alliterative poems in Literacy and Spooky art.

End of Term

The August to October term has now come to an end and we have had a great time!

This week we have finished our swimming lessons at Eastwood and we all had a great time in the pool. It was so much fun because we got to have our lesson and then some fun time on the big floats. We also had relay races. Ethan

My favourite thing this week was also swimming as it was our last session and my group did some diving and practicing of the different strokes. We had free time at the end to do whatever we liked. It was fun! I also had fun in PE playing ball tig but we added in a rule that we had to shoot a basketball hoop. It was my idea to play jail break and when you got the ball in, the children were freed from jail. Olivia

This week I really liked PE because we did lots of different types of ball skills both inside and outside. I feel that I have got much better at it and I really enjoyed it as it helped me get better at catching and throwing over the term. I have improved a lot. This week I enjoyed doing mine craft maths. Congratulations to Shuna! Maths T-shirt Competition Winner

It has been an amazing term. Have a lovely October break everyone!

Maths Week

This week has been fun and exciting as we did lots of maths activities!

We loved doing the Knex challenge because we all worked in teams to put our ideas together to build a bridge. Our challenge was to help a sick child get across the bridge but the bridge had broken and we needed to build a bridge across the gap with Knex.   (Katie)

I thought that we all worked as a great team but there was a little bit of arguing too! (Georgia)

My team was successful in getting the ambulance across the bridge but it was quite tricky because the Knex didn’t quite work as it kept on falling but we kept going and got spiky pieces that worked in the end.  (Ashton)

Happy success!

We also had the challenge of designing and making  games this week. All the class split into groups and created different maths games and we are now looking forward to playing them this afternoon!

Great fun had by all! Thanks to P7 and Miss Morgan for organising.

September

August came and went and now September and Autumn is here.

Primary 6 have been working on Growth mindset and learning about how they can grow intelligence.

“I really enjoy Science and when we made the brain hats and learned about the two sides of the brain it gave me an idea about when I’m thinking about things and doing things where in the brain it comes from. The activities we did were fun science with art and design.”

We made nerve cells out of Plasticine to show that brain activity has connections when the animal or person is able to play with others or play with toys. (Megan)

We go swimming every Thursday morning at Eastwood and it is so much fun. Even on the bus it is fun as we sing songs and spend time with friends.

We did Islamic geometric patterns in art and maths.

Here is Isla showing her first finished stage.

“We were creating some kind of water vehicle such as boats, sub marines, whatever we wished to build with Lego. We wrote a paragraph about it, what it was, what it did and if it did a job.”

Very proud of all the children at swimming so far. Its going great and they are all being very brave in the pool and giving it their best!

September Week 1

This week was exciting as we had our first swimming session.

“I enjoyed it because at the start we all got to show our skills to everyone and at the end we all got to jump into the big pull together!” Isla Mckinnon.

The children were amazing at the swimming – all challenging themselves to swim well and improve even though it was their first lesson.

“This week I have liked going into small groups and deciding how to perform a poem together. We did a kind of rap which was fun and cool! I also liked it when the Primary 7s were out of school and the Primary 6s got to be monitors for the day, it made me feel good.”  Ruaridh Robertson.

As the weather was rotten on our PE day we did some just dance in the class which caused hilarity and great groovy moves.

Raising our heart rate in Walk like an Egyptian!

Another week has passed and Primary 6 have enjoyed maths revising addition and subtraction and using mirrors to establish the many different lines of symmetry in shapes and also in objects around us in the world.

They have also written about memorable experiences in writing and linked RME with drama to see what skills are required to avoid fighting and hurting others.

Improvised Drama scenario
When a situation goes wrong…..

The children shared ideas about their feelings when a situation between friends or family members can go wrong.  They also shared what helpful strategies they use to calm down when they feel they are getting angry or frustrated.

In PE,  ‘My favourite was the basket ball dribbling race around my team of friends, we were quick and I was happy that my teacher said I was dribbling with good speed and control’ said by Rowan.

The week has flown by yet again.

A few photos …..but more to come as the weeks progress.
