K-NEX Challenge

Usually at this time of year there is a K-Nex challenge for Primary 6 to coincide with our STEAM week and the winners of the challenge go forward to cluster and regional events. However with this being cancelled we decided to do it anyway in house!

– The show must go on!!   For now anyway!! 🙂

What amazing cheerful children at school today – resilient and eager to be with friends and have a fun challenge.

The Challenge was – To create an aircraft of their own – could have been imaginative or just what we would see in our skies – helicopter, plane etc.

An exciting challenge of creating a flying machine.

Here are some comments from the children…and of course some fab pictures!

We made a helicopter but from a different universe with great imagination! It was called the PPAS Peppa Pig Airline Service 🙂

We did very well as working as  a team and at the end we won a  prize for excellent team work. (Tom and Rowan)

I enjoyed working with my friends from the other class, that was fun! We built a plane called the Special Plane 2000 (SP200) It is like a flying carriage and it was quite hard to make the base but we got there in the end! We came joint first for great teamwork and got a chocolate! Everyone of our team chose a Wispa but Tabitha chose a Crunchie!

THE K-nex challenge was challenging today however our team won!! It was really fun and entertaining and we found it fun to work together.  Ours was a helicopter called the Awesomecopter and it had 6 moving parts with a cockpit and steering wheel. We were quite shocked and didn’t realise there was a competition and we were surprised when we found out that we had won. None of us expected it. (Ruaridh and Abhijay)

Here are some more examples of of the amazing creations and teamwork!

STEAM fortnight

Primary 6 have been very busy with STEAM activities and visitors  due to our STEAM fortnight. Here are a few of the photographs from our activities so far….

Mr Hull came in to give us a chance to use some of the technology equipment that we have in the cluster. We had the chance to build our own Bloxel characters using cubes then wen on the iPad to create the character digitally and put it into a game to play. It was fun!

We loved trying to keep the Sphero balls inside the route! That was quite impossible!

Craig trying his best!!

VR Headsets too!

In class…. – What is a chemical reaction?

We have been looking at abstract art and learning what it is through looking at other artists and their styles.

We have been creating our own background abstract art using our own styles and ideas and very soon will be adding to the foreground something we choose that is to do with space in the style of the artist Peter Thorpe. We have been enjoying creating our own individual artistic styles of abstract art.

Science: Black Holes

Today we had a science lesson which was fun and challenging! It was all about Black holes. I found it only a little bit tricky to understand but I think I understood it pretty well.

We learned how a black hole was formed and what the black hole does and why it does what it does. I learned a bit about the Space-time continuum and gravitational pull and mass. When something collides with a black hole it gets bigger as it absorbs it’s mass. (Francis)

Volunteers showing gravity – what comes up must come down.
Investigation to see what happens when a star collapses.

This last picture shows a star that has the usual gas around it (foil) and then collapses once it has run out of fuel.

This star has gas around it (foil)

A star imploding and then the gas reducing all around it….  (Francis)

Our school values award this month went to Eilidh who got it for being truthful and honest when it really matters.

Euroquiz contestants did amazingly well at the quiz and came 5th!! Well done!!
