What is this?

Good Food Skills is a virtual learning environment supporting practitioners preparing for and using food as a context for learning, in particular, relating to practical food experiences.​

Who is it for?

The Good Food Skills Hub is for everyone involved in delivering food education in Scotland It is of relevance to practitioners from every sector, at any point in their career, regardless of role or remit.

For example:

  • individual practitioners 
  • groups of staff/departments
  • school catering
  • whole schools, clusters, local improvement groups and learning communities
  • local authorities​.

Food education permeates every area of the curriculum and is a great context for real life learning. ​​

Learning to cook is a skill for life. As educators, we have a great opportunity to teach children and young people how to cook recipes for themselves and their families using home grown or locally sourced foods

This resource supports practitioners with information & activities in relation to the classroom management and teaching of practical food education & skills.

The resource has been set up for you to work through each section, building knowledge, understanding & skills with the end result of highly effective teaching & learning experiences for children & young people relating to practical food education.​
