Our last week in Primary 3!!!

Well, it has been a wonderful and busy last full week in P3b. We have enjoyed lots of fun activities and we have developed a new love for Blooket 🙂

We have completed a Willy Wonka scavenger hunt, learned lots about magnets, wrote a letter to our new teacher Mr Clark and took part in a Literacy quiz. We also made Growth Mindset cards which will be passed to Mr Clark for us to have in P4. We each wrote a message to ourselves to remind us never to give up and keep going, even when things get tough!

It has been such an amazing year in P3b. We are very much looking forward to our Pyjama Party on Monday and the film, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on Tuesday.

Some of us have been working on a bug hotel for most of the year. This is the final creation. It has been destroyed and recreated on many occasion but I am sure this is a favourite memory for some!

Magnets

On Thursday we spent the day learning about magnets. We explored what is magnetic in our classroom and learned that not all metals are magnetic. We explored the pushing and pulling of magnets and also the strength of magnets through the paperclip challenge. We were also challenged to get a paperclip out of a glass of water without touching it which was far too easy for us! We completed our learning by creating a maze and challenging our friends to guide a paperclip through our mazes with a magnet.

Willy Wonka Scavenger Hunt

On Monday we were in Willy Wonka’ Sweet Shop and had to search for questions and then answer them about the cost of items in the shop or the change we would receive. Our favourite part was hearing all the words of Willy Wonka’s sweets.

Outdoor Learning

We love the woodland and were given some free time to play on Tuesday. Lots of us have really enjoyed creating our own restaurant in the woodland were garlic bread, pizza, spring onions and burritos were all on the menu!

Week Beginning 13.06.22

This week we have focused on completing our short topic on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We still have a few chapters to go of the book but it has been so lovely to see the children so enthusiastic about the story and many have been bringing in their own copies to read along with. We completed our display which has been a joint effort with P3a.

St Cadocs

Quite a few of the boys in the class play for St Cadocs and on Thursday they each brought in an item they were presented with last week to show their commitment to their club. Well done boys!

Literacy

We have focused on spelling this week and completed activities to revise the spelling sounds we have learned along with our spelling words, common words and tricky words. This week we absolutely loved the game ‘Spelling Who am I?’ We worked in small groups and each person took a turn to have a spelling word stuck to their head. The other group members had to give them clues  by giving a rhyming word, synonym, antonym or an action. Once they guessed the word they then had to spell it correctly to score a point for their team. We loved it so much we have asked to play it again next week!

Pop Art

We learned about Pop Art this week and the artist Andy Warhol. We then created our own chocolate bar pop art. Don’t they look fantastic?

Outdoor Learning

This week we were challenged with creating some Minibeast art in the woodland area. We were only allowed to use natural materials. We were extremely keen and some of us created a few pieces. It was really lovely to see our creative imaginations really come alive!

Health Week – Friday

Sports Day finally arrived and we were extremely excited leading up to the big event. All of the children did an amazing job with such a positive attitude which they have demonstrated throughout the whole week.

Here is a photo of our Sports Day race winners however all of the children are winners for taking part and giving it their all, well done P3b!

Our favourite station – The Space Hoppers

Health Week – Thursday

Today was our last day of activities before Sports Day and we had a day full of fun and laughter!

We started off with dance and whilst some of us were a little unsure at first we soon got into the swing of things and enjoyed learning a new dance routine.

Stretching

Strike your own pose!

The Routine

Karate

During Karate we learned about a pink banana from Japan (ask us all about it) and then learned how to block something coming towards us. We also learned about concentration and focus and really improved our balancing skills by ensuring we focused on the same spot in front of us. Terry was extremely funny and we learned a lot from him today!

Health Week – Wednesday

We had such a fun day in P3b enjoying some Taekwondo followed by some Judo. The instructors were both from outwith the school and kindly gave up their time to teach us. We loved learning the different techniques in both both sports!

Taekwondo

Judo

After a fun morning of martial arts, we made our own smoothies in the afternoon and enjoyed drinking them whilst finishing off our Picasso art. We had to remember the claw hold and bridge hold  to ensure we chopped our fruit safely!

Health Week – Tuesday

As part of Health Week,  we took part in some Yoga to not only develop our flexibility but also to promote a positive mindset. We enjoyed getting in to some tricky positions and felt very relaxed afterwards!

We then took part in hockey with Mrs Fry and Mrs Doyle. There are lots of pictures to enjoy. For most of us it was our first time playing hockey. Mrs Doyle said our skills were excellent and we really enjoyed learning the rules of the game!

Health Week – Monday

This week we are completing our blog a little differently. We will update each day with what we are doing in P3b for Health Week.

We kicked off Health Week with a Hiit session from Miss Higgins. We had a go at lots of different exercises and tried our best to repeat them for the amount of time given. Needless to say we were very hot and a little tired after this!

High Knees

Sit Ups

Star Jumps

Press Ups

Burpees

The Plank

Next up was Orienteering with Mrs Lamont. We had to use our team working and communication skills to create a face using hula hoops, bean bags, cones and quoits. We had to use our guide to help us gather the materials in the correct colours and then lay them out in the correct coloured hoop. It was a lot more challenging than we though!

We then had a go at finding some stations and clipping the orienteering sheet with the punch in the correct place.

Last for today was football with Mrs Amin’s husband Muneb. We had a great time practising our football skills across 3 different stations.

Platinum Jubilee

P3b had a wonderful day on Wednesday celebrating the Platinum Jubilee.

We created our own  bunting which is hanging beautifully in our classroom and them created our own Union Jacks with finger print painting.

We spent some time learning about the Queen. There were lots of questions and we were mostly interested in how you become the Queen. This led on to some interesting discussions about the Royal Family.

We finished off the celebrations enjoying our tea party outside. We looked amazing in our party clothes and were very much in the party spirit as we enjoyed our snack and juice and played some games.

Week Beginning 23.05.22

It has been a week of colour and fun in P3b. We had an amazing time on Wednesday completing the Colour Run. We were extremely excited leading up to the colour run and all took part with so much enthusiasm. As you can see from the photos we were all delighted to be soaking wet and covered in a variety of colours.

On Monday we learned about the three primary colours and the three secondary colours. We also explored the tertiary colours. We were given the challenge of making our own colour wheel using only the three primary colours. There was lots of mixing and trial and error but we were all able to make a variety of colours. This will prepare us for our Picasso pieces which we will be completing in a couple of weeks.

More fun was had in the woodland this week. We have been learning about the habitats of minibeasts and discussing why a minibeast would choose a particular habitat. We spoke about dark, damp places along with leafy, green places and dry, sheltered places.

We had lots of fun searching for more minibeasts and had some time to play at the end of our session.

Week Beginning 16.05.22

Wow, what busy busy week we have had in P3b. We are really enjoying listening to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and this week demonstrated our creative side by inventing our own sweets. Some of our sweets can turn your nose blue, make you turn invisible, cause you to always smell coconut and lots of our sweets last forever! We discussed textures and scents and gave our sweets really creative names.

Numeracy and Maths

Some of us have continued our work with subtraction. We completed lots of work with the tens and units materials to support our understanding and are beginning to learn how to borrow and exchange. Others have been looking at multiplying and dividing by 3 and have been looking at different strategies we can use to complete calculations.

Literacy

We have been looking at characterisation this week. At the beginning of the week we completed character studies based on one of the four children from Charlie and the Chocolate factory. We discussed what the character does in the story and chose adjectives to describe that character based on this information. We also discussed if we would like that child to be our friend.

For writing, in groups we worked on one of the four children including Charlie and created giant posters which detailed as much information as we have learned about that character. We then used this information to complete a table based on that character to show our understanding of the five points of characterisation.

Health and Wellbeing

After completing our experiment last week about handwashing, we know how important it is to wash your hands. This week we created posters which we will put up around the school to promote handwashing. We had to include the different steps you need to take and also included some interesting facts about handwashing and germs.

Outdoor Learning

This week we started minibeast hunting and had a lovely time searching underneath stones, leaves and in amongst the grass and trees. We loved showing out minibeasts off and were very careful when handling them ensuring we put them back in a safe place. This has got us thinking about their habitats and next week we will be learning more about this!

Ibrahim, Caleb, Charlie and Ethan made a pizza restaurant. They created cutlery from leaves and twigs and served a variety of different pizzas including pepperoni mmmmm!
