Week Beginning 21.02.22

“Say Shava Shava”

We have had a wonderful week celebrating International Mother Tongue Languages Day. Our country was Pakistan and we absolutely loved the song we were asked to learn. The lyrics were a challenge but we managed it and also showed off some fantastic dance moves.  I don’t think this will be the last time we sing it together as a class.  We also created labels in Urdu of rooms around the school and had fun sticking them to the correct doors. We made our Pakistan flags and of course came to school on Thursday dressed in the colours of the flag.

Have a look on our school Twitter page to see us dressed in our flag colours.

Numeracy and Maths

Across the learning groups we have been learning a variety of skills including multiplication and division and addition with carrying. We also completed some problem solving and were tasked with sorting the coins in a particular way.

Literacy

Within reading, we have enjoyed creating character ladders  which is a lovely way to really get us thinking about the characters in a story. We have continued to look at sequencing along with testing our skimming skills at the beginning of our reading sessions.  Some of us were also tasked with reading and following a set of instructions to make a moving cat. We started our comic strips this week and will complete them next week. At the beginning of our writing lesson we completed some visualising. We listened to an extract from The BFG and then drew what we thought was happening. It was lovely to share our drawings with each other.

Sun, Moon and Stars

We completed our learning about the Sun, Moon and Stars by learning about the different Phases of the Moon and also creating Start constellations. Below are some photos of an experiment we completed in class to demonstrate the different phases. One person was the earth, another the sun and then 8 children sat around the circle to represent each phase by holding our ‘moon ball’.  Also, thank you to Caleb for bringing his Space Projector into class and sharing it with P3a, we really enjoyed looking at the stars and the planets on our classroom ceiling.

Expressive Arts

We have also completed our block of drawing by creating a stormy landscape similar to Vincent Van Gogh’s, Field Under Thunder Clouds. We used chalk on black paper and then use different techniques we have learned to create a stormy affect and different patterns in the fields.

Week Beginning 14.02.22

This week in P3b we have loved sharing our presentations with each other.  The children have put so much effort into their presentations and really considered how they would share their research with the class. There has been lots of humour also which has helped to make the whole experience really enjoyable. Here are some photos of us sharing our hard work…

Numeracy and Maths

Across all groups we have been focusing on number. Some of us are multiplying by 2, 5 and 10 and using different strategies to answer a calculation. Have a look at our strategy mats below.  Others have been focusing on vertical calculations. We continued our short block on measurement by looking at weight and the different units of measurement. Next week, we will be estimating and weighing items with scales.

Literacy

We have had a big focus on sequencing this week and showing our understanding of a text by putting sentences in the correct order. Some of us also created storyboards to show our understanding of a story, our illustrations were amazing! We are starting to learn about ‘openers’ and ‘connectives’ and will be introducing these to our writing over the coming weeks. We also enjoyed planning our comic strips and look forward to creating these during our writing lesson next week.

Science

Alongside our presentations we completed our own research in pairs about the sun and were tasked with creating a fact sheet.  This also helped to develop our ICT and online research skills. Next week we look forward to learning about the moon, including the phases of the moon and star constellations.

Week Beginning 07.02.22

After what seemed like a lovely February weekend for all of us, we have all settled back into class and been busy from the word go! It has once again been lovely to hear what everyone spent their time doing and also sharing good news stories with each other.

Numeracy and Maths

This week we have focused on 3D Objects, Data Analysis and Symmetry. We explored different ways data can be displayed then had a go at answering questions about various types. We also sorted items into different categories using Venn Diagrams.

Literacy and English

We have had a big focus on inferencing this week and have been looking through a text for clues to support our answer. We also participated in ‘blether stations’. We had to work out what the item or object was that was being described on the card but we were only given some of the information.

In writing, we completed our last diary entry. This was based on an imaginative short film. We loved absolutely loved the film, finding it very funny and enjoyed adding description to our diary entries. Next week, we are starting a short block on comic writing which we are very excited about. We are basing our coming around the book ‘The First Hippo on the Moon’ by David Walliams. We read it in class today and there were lots of giggles!

Expressive Arts

We continued to develop our drawing skills by using chalk to create a field of colours and textures. We did lots of rubbing to blend the colours and there we some very interesting conversations around what colours made what when mixed.

Science

Many of us have shown a very keen interest in our Science topic, The Sun, Moon and Stars, even bringing in our own books from home to share. Some of the facts we have learned have amazed us and some of us have also shown a very good knowledge. We are very much looking forward to sharing our presentations next week and learning lots from each other.
