Week Beginning 09.05.22

P3b are really excited about our new class topic based on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It was planned as a focus through our Literacy learning however we are so interested in the story and have already came up with some wonderful ideas for our display along with some exciting lessons.

Numeracy and Maths

Subtraction has been our main focus this week. We are working on two-digit and three-digit subtraction and some of us are looking at subtraction with exchange. We also completed our short money topic by learning about different ways we can pay for items. Some of the children have shown an interest in old coins and brought some in to show the class. We had lots of fun working out how old they were!

Literacy

We are enjoying listening to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and completing activities associated with the story. This week we created our own newspaper report detailing the release of the 5 golden tickets. We also redesigned the front cover of the book with wonderful illustrations. We are continuing with our own reading books in our learning groups and this week have been learning about ‘silent w’ and ‘silent k’ for spelling.

Health and Wellbeing

This week we learned how easily germs can spread and the importance of washing our hands. We demonstrated this through a  glitter experiment.

One person in each small group covered their hands in glitter and then shook hands with other children in the group. The glitter represented the germs and we were amazed at how easily it spread. We then tried to wash off the ‘germs’ in a variety of different ways. Some of us only used a dry paper towel, others washed their hands with cold water for a few seconds with no soap and the rest washed their hands for 20 seconds with warm water and soap. I am sure you can guess which one worked best to remove all of the germs!

We loved using the visualiser to show the rest of the class our hands. All of our hands were nice and clean by the end of the experiment 🙂

Week Beginning 25.04.22

P3b have had a lovely week and enjoyed their time in the woodland area. It is clear this has been very much missed and we are looking forward to spending every Tuesday morning taking part in Outdoor Learning.

Numeracy and Maths

We have continued learning about money this week and focused on totalling two amounts along with calculating change. On Friday we created our own ‘shops’ and drew 5 items which we would sell in our shops and then gave each item a price. We then worked together to calculate the change we would receive if we paid with a certain note or coin.

Literacy and English

During writing we completed a story called ‘The Magic Shed’. We had to use our imaginations lots and focused on adding description, connectives and openers. This was a lot to focus on and we have set ourselves our own writing target for our next piece of work. We have also been looking at predicting and enjoyed designing a front cover of a book and then predicting what it would be about with only the title as our information.

RME

We have been learning about the Passover and this week learned why Passover is celebrated in the Jewish religion and how it is celebrated. We looked at the Seder Plate and created our own plate the ingredients traditionally served on the plate.

Health and Wellbeing

We have continued learning about looking after our bodies. We have already learned it is important to eat healthy foods such as fruit and enjoyed creating our own fruit salad. We learned about different ways to chop fruit safely by using the ‘claw grip’ and the ‘bridge hold’. We very much enjoyed our fruit salads as you can see from the photos and so many of us have asked to do this again!

Week Beginning 18.04.22

What a lovely week we have had in P3b. We have been lucky enough to enjoy some of the sunshine and on Tuesday we spent some time in the Gazebo sharing what we did during the holidays. We then had some fun on the activity trail.

The school marked Earth Day by asking the children and staff to wear green (or blue) tops. The tops could also be ‘green’ in the sense they was eco-friendly. Here are some pictures of us in our tops 🙂

Numeracy and Mathematics

This week we have all been learning about money. We have been focusing on making amounts using a variety of coins and in different ways. Some of us have also been challenged with making amounts with the fewest amount of coins. We have also been adding two totals together and next week we will beginning looking at calculating change.

Health and Wellbeing

This week we picked up where we left off last term on looking after our bodies. We discussed different ways we can keep our bodies healthy through healthy eating, drinking and also personal hygiene. We made some poster with lots of important information about how to do this.

Muga Time

We have a wonderful time in the Muga enjoying the sunshine on Friday.  We played some games with the parachute and then created our own activities with a range of equipment. There was lots of goal scoring, bean bag tossing, ball throwing and hula hooping, all with lots of smiles!

We hope you enjoy the video of us with the parachute!

The Bee Musical

We had the most amazing time sharing all of our hard work with our parents/carers, families and friends on Thursday. We were full of excitement (and some nerves) before the show and full of smiles after the show!

We worked incredibly hard learning our lines and the songs, choosing our own dance moves and adding our own personalities and ideas to the show. We also took ownership of the props and created most of them ourselves. Most importantly we all really enjoyed it and Mrs Agnew is extremely proud of us all 🙂

Here are some photos that Miss Faull kindly took of our show.

Have the most amazing Easter break 🙂

Week Beginning 21.03.22

We have worked incredibly hard this week practising for our show and we are becoming more and more excited as the day of our show draws closer!

We had a lovely time creating some back drops for our stage whilst singing along to the songs for our show. We were very much busy little bees and there was a wonderful atmosphere in the classroom. It helped that the sun was also shining!

There has also been lots of interest in learning about bees. Some of this has been planned learning and some of us have spent time reading non-fiction books in the library or completing their own learning at home. We loved it when we spotted a bee in the gym hall during one of our practices and we now know how important bees are!

Numeracy and Maths

We finished our learning on Data and Analysis by completing our own bar chart using Google Sheets (Excel). As you can see from the pictures we did an amazing job and were very proud to put our printed chart in our jotters. Just ask us about the features of a bar chart! We have moved onto learning about greater than and less than and will continue with this next week.

Literacy

Some of us worked hard creating a non-fiction report this week to show our understanding of a non-fiction text. Others have been working on reading a sentence then drawing an illustration to reflect our understanding. We have also practised our spelling words through Active Spelling and Roll and Read activities. We have been adding  more description to our writing so this week we learned about ‘powerful’ adjectives and the difference they can make to a sentence.

Thank you to everyone who has provided a costume for our show. We can’t wait to perform it to you next week!!!

Week Beginning 14.03.22

We have had such a busy week of show practise and we are all doing an amazing job of learning our lines, practising standing in position on the stage and coming up with some wonderful actions for our songs. There is quite literally a ‘buzz’ in the air!

Numeracy and Maths

We have continued with Data and Analysis and worked extremely hard on our bar charts ensuring we had all the important features. We have learned to display data in a variety of ways along with completing our own questions for a survey.

Literacy

This week for writing we wrote an imaginative piece about a camping adventure. We focused on adding description along with adding sentence openers to make our writing more interesting and more exciting for our reader. Some of us have continued building our dictionary skills by finding the definition of words we are unsure of and we had another go ad visualisation where we listen to an extract from a story and draw what we think is happening…our illustrations are wonderful and we really use our imagination!

Science Week

We enjoyed a live show on Tuesday about Minibeasts. This was a wonderful introduction for us as we will be looking at Minibeasts next term. Here we are watching the show and then pretending to be different Minibeasts including a Dung Beetle and a Bee or Wasp.

We also discussed how we can eat in a more ‘planet friendly’ way and how we can be more sustainable. We looked at where different foods are grown and the ‘food miles’ it takes to make something simple such as a burger. We then created our own ‘planet friendly’ burgers.

Physical Education

On Friday, we enjoyed a lovely sunny game of Rounders. We are building our team-working skills along with our batting and running skills. We are learning a lot about communicating with our teams.

Week Beginning 07.03.22

We have been very busy bees in P3b practising for our show. We are really enjoying the songs and lots of us can be heard singing or humming them to ourselves. We have also been learning about bees through our Literacy work and enjoyed creating our comic strips about the day in the life of a worker bee. We are sure you will agree our illustrations are amazing and our captions really showed off our knowledge of the worker bee.

Numeracy and Maths

Most of us have been working on Data and Analysis. We started off creating our own tally charts and pictograms and have progressed onto drawing a bar chart. We will also be creating and carrying out our own surveys and then displaying our data. We also plan to have a go at creating a bar chart using Excel.

Health and Wellbeing

This week we began a short topic around Healthy Eating, Personal Hygiene and Germs and Diseases. This week we learned about the different food groups which are important for our bodies to stay healthy. We sorted foods into two groups – Health and Unhealthy and then created our own healthy meal on a paper plate.

Physical Education

Mrs Agnew sneaked along to our PE lesson with Mr McMillan and took some photos of us. We are focusing on gymnastics which includes balancing, jumping and rolling.

We are so creative!

We have continued to really show our creative side in P3b.

Theo, Charlie and Zack created the Leaning Tower of Pillows.

Some more wonderful tiling designs. Mia made a design in the shape of a dogs head.

Week Beginning 28.02.22

We have had a wonderful week in P3b celebrating World Book Day. We took part in ‘Stop, Drop and Read’ within class and also took part in the book swap with our peers, some of us were quite happy to continue reading our own book. During this time we enjoyed a lovely snack and  spent time either reading or sharing our book with others. It was a great opportunity to explore books we may not normally read. We do have lots of Harry Potter fans in P3b with a total of 8 Harry Potter books brought into class!!!

We also created some silly stories by passing sheets of paper around the classroom and everyone wrote part of the story. There were lots of giggles which could probably be heard throughout the school. Here are some pictures of us enjoying our stories…

Numeracy and Maths

Whilst we continued with our number work this week, we were very excited to start learning about 2D tiling. We are a very creative class and some of the designs we made are amazing!

Literacy

We continued with our dictionary work this week and absolutely loved a team game of ‘spot the word’. We were incredibly excited and it also helped us to work on our skimming skills too. We also finished off our comic strips and Mrs Agnew is absolutely delighted with our finished pieces. We have included amazing illustrations, fantastic speech bubbles and really interesting captions.

Sometimes in P3b we are given some free time to explore. Many of us are really interested in the peg boards at the moment. I am sure you will agree that our creations are lovely and some of us ideas really show how well we use our imaginations!

Magnus and Ibrahim created the flag of Pakistan.

Kayla created a unicorn.

P3b Show

Over the next few weeks we will be working really hard practising for our show. This week we began to learn the songs and were given our parts plus our scripts. We are very excited to share our show with you but have lots of work to do first!

Week Beginning 21.02.22

“Say Shava Shava”

We have had a wonderful week celebrating International Mother Tongue Languages Day. Our country was Pakistan and we absolutely loved the song we were asked to learn. The lyrics were a challenge but we managed it and also showed off some fantastic dance moves.  I don’t think this will be the last time we sing it together as a class.  We also created labels in Urdu of rooms around the school and had fun sticking them to the correct doors. We made our Pakistan flags and of course came to school on Thursday dressed in the colours of the flag.

Have a look on our school Twitter page to see us dressed in our flag colours.

Numeracy and Maths

Across the learning groups we have been learning a variety of skills including multiplication and division and addition with carrying. We also completed some problem solving and were tasked with sorting the coins in a particular way.

Literacy

Within reading, we have enjoyed creating character ladders  which is a lovely way to really get us thinking about the characters in a story. We have continued to look at sequencing along with testing our skimming skills at the beginning of our reading sessions.  Some of us were also tasked with reading and following a set of instructions to make a moving cat. We started our comic strips this week and will complete them next week. At the beginning of our writing lesson we completed some visualising. We listened to an extract from The BFG and then drew what we thought was happening. It was lovely to share our drawings with each other.

Sun, Moon and Stars

We completed our learning about the Sun, Moon and Stars by learning about the different Phases of the Moon and also creating Start constellations. Below are some photos of an experiment we completed in class to demonstrate the different phases. One person was the earth, another the sun and then 8 children sat around the circle to represent each phase by holding our ‘moon ball’.  Also, thank you to Caleb for bringing his Space Projector into class and sharing it with P3a, we really enjoyed looking at the stars and the planets on our classroom ceiling.

Expressive Arts

We have also completed our block of drawing by creating a stormy landscape similar to Vincent Van Gogh’s, Field Under Thunder Clouds. We used chalk on black paper and then use different techniques we have learned to create a stormy affect and different patterns in the fields.

Week Beginning 14.02.22

This week in P3b we have loved sharing our presentations with each other.  The children have put so much effort into their presentations and really considered how they would share their research with the class. There has been lots of humour also which has helped to make the whole experience really enjoyable. Here are some photos of us sharing our hard work…

Numeracy and Maths

Across all groups we have been focusing on number. Some of us are multiplying by 2, 5 and 10 and using different strategies to answer a calculation. Have a look at our strategy mats below.  Others have been focusing on vertical calculations. We continued our short block on measurement by looking at weight and the different units of measurement. Next week, we will be estimating and weighing items with scales.

Literacy

We have had a big focus on sequencing this week and showing our understanding of a text by putting sentences in the correct order. Some of us also created storyboards to show our understanding of a story, our illustrations were amazing! We are starting to learn about ‘openers’ and ‘connectives’ and will be introducing these to our writing over the coming weeks. We also enjoyed planning our comic strips and look forward to creating these during our writing lesson next week.

Science

Alongside our presentations we completed our own research in pairs about the sun and were tasked with creating a fact sheet.  This also helped to develop our ICT and online research skills. Next week we look forward to learning about the moon, including the phases of the moon and star constellations.
