Our Queen Jubilee Celebration Party!

Last week, we learnt all about Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal Family! Throughout the week, we enjoyed many fun activities to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. We made our own bunting, learnt historical facts, completed royal role play and had a party!

On Wednesday afternoon, we had the opportunity to celebrate the Queen’s monarchy with our friends and with some yummy snacks! We had a great time, look at our smiles ☺️!

This week, we have another busy week celebrating Health Week and Sports Day! Each day, we have professionals coming into our class to complete a variety of sports from Football, Dance, Judo, Karate and many more sports! Sport’s Day will be on Friday between play time and lunchtime.

On Friday, we will post another blog with great pictures from Health Week! See you then! ☺️

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the Colour Run!

We have been extremely busy learners learning about different Literacy skills using the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

We have consolidated, learnt and explored the following skills:

  • Prediction
  • Characterisation
  • Skimming and Scanning
  • Visualisation
  • Labelling information to create a poster
  • Created a newspaper article

and many many more…!

In teams, we used our senses to create and design our own chocolate room!

‘We imagined what we would smell, hear, feel, taste and see!’ – Max M.

Using our imagination, we designed and labelled our own creative chocolate room!

We pretended to be illustrators and designed a new front cover for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

An illustrator is the person who draws detailed pictures.’ – Luca V.

Willy Wonka releases his article in a newspaper to describe that he is releasing 5 Golden Tickets. Therefore, we learnt the features of a newspaper article and created our own!

A newspaper article has detailed drawings, words that describe important information and has a big, bold heading!.’ – Fara

‘A newspaper article needs to have lots information to tell you what is happening.’ – Scarlett

We have explored all of the characters within Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Using information from the text, we created a character description on our favourite character and Willy Wonka!

Our character descriptions included:

  • Describing words (adjectives)
  • Detailed drawings
  • Appearance
  • Personality
  • Actions

Aria, Thomas, Max B., Luca V. and Max M.

Here are some posters of our adjectives that we used to describe the characters from the novel.

Using our imagination, we made our own chocolate bar! However, we had to label and include key information to describe our chocolate bar.

For example, we described what scent, flavour and the special aspects that the chocolate bar had!  We also designed our own wrappers! We were pretending to be Mr Wonka himself!

Testing our knowledge and comprehension of the novel, we used Blooket to complete a quiz! We had to answer as many questions as we could on the Chromebook. However, our points were in danger because sometimes our friends would be able to swap or steal our points!

We had lots of fun and cannot wait to complete another quiz!

Today, we had the most amazing time completing the colour run! Look at our pictures! We were running, swerving and dodging the chalk paint! We are warriors!!!!

We are not in school tomorrow, therefore, I will see you on Monday! Have a lovely long weekend!

Lots of love, Mrs Amin 🙂 xxx

Exchanging Change, Making Fruit Salad and Eid!

Welcome back to our blog! We have been working so hard in class and can’t wait for you to read an update about our learning.

We have been continuing to explore Money. We have been learning about the following:

  • The value of coins
  • Learnt how to calculate change up to £20 using subtraction
  • Learnt how to use vertical calculations to solve change
  • Explored the different ways to pay for items

‘We have sorted the coins in order from the lowest value to the highest.’ – Isabella and Qasim

We practised making amounts, however, we are beginning to use the least amount of coins to pay for items!

‘I am making different values of amounts using the least amount of coins.’ – Ava

‘We were in groups making different amounts using the least amount of coins.’ – Jace

‘You want to use the least amount of coins because it is easier to calculate amounts.’ – Harrison

During our germs and diseases topic, we linked in our Maths skills by completing a survey! We discussed a variety of common diseases and illnesses. We learnt ways to prevent ourselves from getting ill or how to make ourselves feel better.

‘On the survey, we asked each other who had illnesses such as Covid-19, cold or flu.’- Hasan

‘We used tally marks to gather information.’ – Jamie

At the end of collecting information, we analysed our data and determined which illnesses were the most common and least common.

We have been using Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as a context for learning!

Whilst learning about Predictions, we designed our own book cover! We predicted what the front cover looked like without seeing it! We used the title and the blurb as a clue to help us!

‘A prediction is when you use clues to help you think about what is going to happen next.’ – Jace

Look at how creative our front covers are!

To promote healthy eating, we learnt how to create a fruit salad using different techniques such as the claw grip and bridge hold.

In these pictures, you will see us being SUPER CHEFS! We remembered to wash our hands, learnt how to be safe with sharp utensils and are able to safely cut and prepare a variety of fruits.

We can’t wait to make this at home!

Last week, we learnt about Eid. Some of us, were super brave and presented at our school assembly to share our learning!

Mrs Amin gave us some traditional Eid dessert which is called Gulab Jamin. It was yummy and delicious!

What a busy week it has been! We cannot wait for next week! Have a wonderful weekend, superstars!

Love, Mrs Amin xxx

Outdoor Learning, Glitter Experiment and Literacy!

Welcome back to our blog! We are so excited to restart our outdoor learning experiences in Woodland. Our Woodland is every Wednesday afternoon so don’t forget to bring your waterproofs and wellies every week!

Look at us building, lifting, climbing, and creating imaginative stories!

In Literacy, we continue to up level our ideas by using our senses, adjectives, openers and connectives! As there is no talking homework, we plan our ideas before Writing them. This helps us to develop our ideas!

We are continuing to differentiate grammar terms such as adjectives, verbs, nouns and adverbs! We are becoming more and more confident at sorting words into the correct class.

This week, we have been learning about prediction. Mrs Amin told us the name of our books only. Using the clues from the title, we had to design a book cover on what we thought it looked like! After, Mrs Amin revealed the correct front cover and we were amazed at how close (or far) our prediction was!

Look at our predictions against the real front cover!

We have been using digital technology to practise our spelling words. We can log in confidently and access google documents to create sentences using our spelling words.

Lastly, in Literacy, we have refreshed our memory about non-fiction texts. We have been learning how to use the contents, index and glossary page to find information or new vocabulary!

In Science, we have started our new topic – Germs and Diseases. Mrs Amin introduced this topic by adding glitter to our hands. The glitter represented germs! Then, we had to shake our friends hands!

We were shocked at how quick and fast the germs transferred to one another and multiplied!

After, we did a quality control on washing the germs from our hands. We realised the importance of washing our hands for the correct length of time to ensure our hands are completely clean! We compared and contrasted the different methods people typically wash their hands!

I wonder what we will be learning about next week… I can’t wait!

Have a great long weekend superstars! Remember I am not in on Tuesday as I will be celebrating Eid . Therefore, I will see you on Wednesday!

Eid Mubarak and Lots of love,

Mrs Amin xxx

‘To Bee or Not to Bee!’ – Happy Easter Everybody!

What a week it has been! Our hard work has paid off as we finally had the opportunity to perform our wonderful Bee Musical show! We really hope you enjoyed our performance! We have had the best few weeks learning and rehearsing our lines and songs.

Here are lots of pictures from this weeks activities which also include fantastic photos from our performance! We have made props for our show, completed an Easter Maths Hunt, drew an artistic Rabbit using texture, tone and line. We also had an afternoon playing Board games whilst enjoying some yummy treats!

You have all had a fantastic Term 2. We have made such wonderful memories too! You should be so proud of how hard you have worked every single day. Have the most wonderful holiday! You deserve it superstars! See you soon!

Non-Fiction Posters, Dictionary Skills and Data Handling!

We are extremely excited for you to see our Bee Musical Show before the Easter Holidays. We have been practising every day and are becoming more and more confident saying our lines and remembering our awesome dance moves!

However, we have still been working hard to complete our Literacy activities! This week, we were practising our Dictionary Skills! After we read our story, we used our dictionary to find the definitions of tricky words that were new to us or words we had never heard of before!

As our Musical is about Bees, we have been completing reading tasks based on non-fiction texts related to Bees! After reading an unseen text, we found the main ideas to create a poster all about Bees!

Our Poster explained the following:

  • Why are bees important?
  • Why are bees dying?
  • How can we protect bees?
  • Other facts

Here are some pictures of us enjoying paired reading!

This week, we have focused on predictions too!

We continue to use active spelling tasks to practise our spelling words! This week our sound is ‘ou’.

In Maths & Numeracy we continued to explore Data Handling! We are learning to display information we have collected! We created our own surveys and collected information from our peers. We used this information to create a bar chart!

We did the same, but this time we went around our classroom to find items to record such as tables, chairs and trays.

To consolidate our learning of Tessellation, we created our own patterns ensuring there were no gaps in our designs.

Here is a picture of Emelia and Aria who are very proud for completing an extremely challenging puzzle!

We are in the swing of practising and preparing for our Bee Musical show! We cannot wait!

For PE next week and the week after, PE will be outdoors with Mr McMillan, rather than indoors! 🙂

Have a wonderful weekend superstars and see you on Monday!

Love Mrs Amin xxx

To Bee or Not to Bee, Comic Strips & Tessellation!

Welcome back to another fantastic week of learning in Primary 3A! We have been practising our Bee Musical throughout the week and our Literacy and Numeracy lessons have been linked to Bees too! Well done to everyone who has been practising their lines at home, you have all been doing a brilliant job in rehearsal.

On Monday, we were learning how to identify the main ideas in our chapter book called – The Twits! We drew and wrote short captions to describe what the main ideas were.

We used our knowledge of Comic Strips to draw and write about the role of the worker bees!

We included:

  • Short captions in each box
  • Speech bubbles
  • Detailed drawings
  • Action words

‘The worker bee makes honeycomb.’ – Charlotte

‘The worker bees feed the baby bees.’ – Emelia

‘They clean up the bees that die in the hive.’ – Jessica

‘They also protect the hive.’ – Gurleen

Worker bees have to guard the entrance.’ – Adam

‘Worker bees make at least 20 trips a day to collect nectar.’ – Luca V.

‘Worker bees are only female and they are never male.’ – Fara

When a worker bee is three weeks old, they venture out the hive to collect nectar.’ – Thomas

We used our sequencing skills to create a bee!

‘We had to find nouns, adjectives and verbs and then had to colour code the different words.’ – Kerr

We learnt the alternative sound ‘oi’ and ‘oy’. We have played many active spelling games to help us learn our spelling words and identify tricky words with the ‘oi’ and ‘oy’ sound!

In Numeracy, we have learnt about Tessellation.

‘Tessellation is when  you use shapes to make a pattern without any gaps.’ – London

‘Tessellation can be found on buildings, bricks, slabs on a roof and on honeycomb.’ – Max B.

We completed a Tiling investigation to solve whether or not a variety of shapes could be used in Tessellation. We also had the chance to complete repeated patterns.

In Data Handling, we have been learning about tally marks, the features of a bar chart and how to read information from a bar chart correctly.

We used Chromebooks to complete a game called Maths 3 Under the Sea to complete different challenges linked to Data Handling. Throughout the week, we had the opportunity to create our own bar charts using the correct features.

‘We had to make sure we included the correct numbers and headings on the bar chart.’ – Harrison

We had to check if the bar chart was going up in 1’s or 2’s.0 – Jace

How are we on Friday already? This week has flown by which means it has been a super fantastic week of learning! Please make sure you continue to practise your Bee Musical Lines at home! Have a wonderful weekend superstars!

Love,

Mrs Amin xxx

P3A Celebrated World Book Day!

Throughout the week, we have engaged in extremely fun and stimulating learning experiences to capture the importance of Reading! World Book Day provided us with the opportunity to explore why reading is important and reminded us why we love to read! Not only that, it was Pancake Day this week too!

In Literacy , we completed a Talking and Listening task related to Pancakes! We had to carefully listen to Mrs Amin’s instructions on how to carefully add in detail to our Pancake grid.

At the end of all the instructions, we had the opportunity to compare our outcome to our peers! It showed us just how good our listening is or if it could be better!

We revisited acrostic poems and used adjectives to create a poem based on the word ‘Pancake’ too!

We continued to learn and practise how to use a dictionary. We played a game called ‘Word Search’ and had to find a word as quickly as possible when Mrs Amin shouted a word to us! It reinforced our knowledge of letters in alphabetical order and it introduced us to new vocabulary too!

We then used our Reading books, to look up the definitions of any tricky words we were unsure of.

We had the pleasure of celebrating World Book Day this week! We began World Book Day by completing our fantastic comic strips with all the relevant detail such as speech bubbles, action words, detailed pictures and captions.

We are continuing to practise ‘Making Inferences’ where have to use the context clues to help us formulate an answer. We need to be ‘Reading Detectives’ to look for information.

In Maths, we have been learning about Multiplication and Division of the 2,5 and 10 times table. We have been using fact families to make connections between numbers whilst multiplying and dividing!

We continue to practise vertical calculations whilst carrying and exchanging units.

During World Book Day, we had a lovely time reading our stories to one another and enjoyed some yummy snacks!

We also played a game called ‘Who am I?’. We had to give clues about the character or book that was stuck to our friends head! We had so much fun!

What a week it has been! It was so lovely having the opportunity to talk to everyone’s parents this week. Everyone had such a glowing report and I hope you are proud of your child’s learning and progress. They are SUPERSTARS!

Have a fantastic weekend!

Love,

Mrs Amin☺️ xxx
