To Bee or Not to Bee, Comic Strips & Tessellation!

Welcome back to another fantastic week of learning in Primary 3A! We have been practising our Bee Musical throughout the week and our Literacy and Numeracy lessons have been linked to Bees too! Well done to everyone who has been practising their lines at home, you have all been doing a brilliant job in rehearsal.

On Monday, we were learning how to identify the main ideas in our chapter book called – The Twits! We drew and wrote short captions to describe what the main ideas were.

We used our knowledge of Comic Strips to draw and write about the role of the worker bees!

We included:

  • Short captions in each box
  • Speech bubbles
  • Detailed drawings
  • Action words

‘The worker bee makes honeycomb.’ – Charlotte

‘The worker bees feed the baby bees.’ – Emelia

‘They clean up the bees that die in the hive.’ – Jessica

‘They also protect the hive.’ – Gurleen

Worker bees have to guard the entrance.’ – Adam

‘Worker bees make at least 20 trips a day to collect nectar.’ – Luca V.

‘Worker bees are only female and they are never male.’ – Fara

When a worker bee is three weeks old, they venture out the hive to collect nectar.’ – Thomas

We used our sequencing skills to create a bee!

‘We had to find nouns, adjectives and verbs and then had to colour code the different words.’ – Kerr

We learnt the alternative sound ‘oi’ and ‘oy’. We have played many active spelling games to help us learn our spelling words and identify tricky words with the ‘oi’ and ‘oy’ sound!

In Numeracy, we have learnt about Tessellation.

‘Tessellation is when  you use shapes to make a pattern without any gaps.’ – London

‘Tessellation can be found on buildings, bricks, slabs on a roof and on honeycomb.’ – Max B.

We completed a Tiling investigation to solve whether or not a variety of shapes could be used in Tessellation. We also had the chance to complete repeated patterns.

In Data Handling, we have been learning about tally marks, the features of a bar chart and how to read information from a bar chart correctly.

We used Chromebooks to complete a game called Maths 3 Under the Sea to complete different challenges linked to Data Handling. Throughout the week, we had the opportunity to create our own bar charts using the correct features.

‘We had to make sure we included the correct numbers and headings on the bar chart.’ – Harrison

We had to check if the bar chart was going up in 1’s or 2’s.0 – Jace

How are we on Friday already? This week has flown by which means it has been a super fantastic week of learning! Please make sure you continue to practise your Bee Musical Lines at home! Have a wonderful weekend superstars!

Love,

Mrs Amin xxx
