Keep up with what’s going on in rehearsals

By Hannah O’Donnell

Now into our second month of rehearsals, the show already shows a lot of promise. Our first October rehearsal started with the (sometimes painful) process of carrying the benches and tables up into the upstairs street area. Then we dived headlong into learning the cheery song ‘Consider Yourself’ while many solo rehearsals went on in the music rooms. We happily ran through the ‘Food, Glorious Food!’ scene, fixing every movement and pose until everything was completely perfect. The terrified squeals of every S1-S3 pupil when the cunning Mr. Bumble walks past are scarily realistic. It makes for one great scene!

In the second rehearsal of October, we happily moved onto the ‘Consider Yourself’ scene, which is a lot of fun. The bustling and bumbling of pickpockets spotting their next precious snatch is odd but thrilling to act out. Entrances and exits are vitally important in this scene, as is timing. We planned out many positions all ready to be perfected after the well-earned October Break.

In the third rehearsal of October, we ran through the ‘Consider Yourself’ and as promised, perfected the positions. Our memories were a little hazy after the October Break, but with a few certain individuals with oddly amazing memories we managed to get the scene right. I feel like this is going to be one of my favourite scenes.

In the fourth and final rehearsal of October, we edited and completed ‘Consider Yourself’. We ran through the scene multiple times until we felt it was good. Next week we can just fix every move until it is perfect. I am really excited about the show. The effort and hard work of all the individuals involved with the show grows more every week, and I think this is what makes all of the school shows so amazing. It’s mind-blowing the amount of work going into Oliver. It’s sure to be a spectacular show!
