Careers (DYW)

Welcome to the English DYW page! During your time in our department, you will develop a range of skills which will make you a desirable candidate for any type of work.

In English, we:

  • Promote a strong work ethic where pupils take responsibility for their own learning
  • Teach pupils how to be resilient, learning and growing within their development needs
  • Promote and celebrate a positive attitude
  • Have high expectations of punctuality, organisation and behaviour
  • Teach pupils how to communicate effectively
  • Encourage independent and creative thought
  • Create leadership roles both in class and extra-curricular clubs

We also support you in vital Employability skills through S1-S6, such as:

  • Oral communication
  • Critical thinking
  • Working in teams
  • Summarising key ideas in a text
  • Reading
  • Extended writing
  • Processing and explaining information
