As you know, the children will soon begin their preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation which will take place during the weeks of Easter. We have received notification from the Diocesan Office of Paisley that this year, the Celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation will take place on Wednesday 26th April at 7pm in St Mirin’s Cathedral. The Glasgow Diocesan have yet to confirm dates.
Children belonging to St Joseph’s parish or those who made their First Communion there can be confirmed in St Mirin’s Cathedral, Paisley. Children belonging to St Vincent’s and Holy Name parish will be Confirmed in the Glasgow Diocese.
If you have any questions around the reception of the sacrament, please do not hesitate to contact me.
JOSEPH’S CHURCH
There will be a short Rite of Enrolment during all masses on the weekend of 19th and 20th November in St. Joseph’s Church. This is for all children who will be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation in St. Mirin’s Cathedral on 26th April 2017.
Parents should bring their child to any Mass and ideally sponsors should attend, if they live locally. Sponsors should be over the age of 16 and a practising Catholic. Father will address the parents, sponsors, children and then the parish community asking that we all work together to support the children in their preparation to receive the Holy Spirit.
Children should wear their own clothes, NOT school uniform.
The children will be writing a letter to Bishop John, asking to receive the Sacrament. They will outline the reasons why they have chosen their saint’s name as an inspiration in their daily lives.
We will send the letter home so that it can be counter signed by parents/carers. They will present this letter to Fr. Jim at the Mass.
Reminder of Mass times in St. Joseph’s Church – Vigil 6pm, 10am 12pm and 6pm
It has been brought to our attention that a number of parents/carers are bringing dogs to school when dropping off or collecting children. As it is school policy that no dogs are allowed in the school, we ask that dogs are not brought into to the school grounds.
Thank You

There will be a P7 parent Lockerbie Manor meeting on Tuesday 20th September from 6-7pm in the main hall. Tea and coffee is available from 5.45pm.
Pupils in the main school may enter the school at 8.40 when it is raining. We ask that parents / guardians do not accompany their children into the mensa area as it is too congested. Members of the management team will be there to supervise pupils.
Pupils in the junior department can also enter the school via the junior department main door at 8.40. Pupils should wait in the porch area until instructed to move by a member of staff. Again pupils will be supervised during this time.
Our Primary 1 pupils have settled in so well and so the door entry will now be 8.55am in line with the rest of the school.
We will have a dress as you please day on Thursday 22nd September. Please send in a donation for school funds on the day.
Please find information below on the forthcoming Scottish Schools Swimming Heats. Please note that the closing date for this meet is the 14th October.
The Parent Equalities Forum will take place at Mearns Castle High School on Thursday 15th from 7-8pm for parents wishing to attend and discuss relevant matters e.g Consultation document.
The Parent Council is looking for someone to take minutes of meetings which take place roughly every 6 to 8 weeks. Can you help? Previous minutes can be found on the school web site if you want to see what is required. Essentially, this means attending the meeting; taking notes; typing up the minutes based on those notes and sending them on to the Chair / Head Teacher. A small payment can be made (averaging around £30 per meeting) though if you join the Parent Council this year, it is not possible to be paid due to applicable regulations.
This year’s meetings will take place on the following dates (note the first meeting is this Thursday):
15th September (combined with AGM)
27th Oct
8th Dec
26th Jan
16th Mar
18th May
22nd Jun
If you think you could help for some or all of the meetings, please contact Gillian on olm-parentcouncil@hotmail.com
Many thanks
Our Lady of the Missions Parent Council
We look forward to seeing a many as possible for our meeting and AGM on Thursday. All parents / carers are welcome. We will be discussing the ERC consultation on changes to admission procedures and then will hold our AGM. Please note the AGM is the only chance to join the Parent Council this year and become a full voting members though parents / carers are welcome to attend any meeting.
For those new to the school, the Parent Council represents the views of parents/ carers in relation to matters affecting the school. In the last few years, we have worked with the school on issues such as traffic, uniform, capacity and communication and hope to have a constructive (and busy) year again this year.
Hope to see you on Thursday.
