World Book Day – Thursday 6th March

Our Lady of the Missions will be holding our annual ‘World Book Day Fest’ on Thursday 6th March. This year, we have arranged a variety of activities to encourage reading and celebrate books and the written word.

The day will include a visit from a story teller for primary 1-3 and a visit form the author, Simon Puttock, for primary 4-7.

We would like each child to enjoy the day by dressing up as their favourite literary character from a book of their choice (For costume ideas visit http://www.bookaid.org/get-involved/fundraise/schools/world-book-day-2014/dress_up_resources/).  Each child should bring in a donation of £1 to dress up and this money will be donated to three exceptional charities: ReadWell, which provides books and storytelling to children in hospital; CLIC Sargent, giving support to children and young people with cancer and their families; and Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, which helps seriously ill and disabled children.

Every class will also be given time in their classes dedicated to reading, a whole school Read-a-thon! For this, each child will have to bring a book (or two) to read and a comfy cushion to sit on.

Thank you in advance for your participation,
Our Lady of the Missions Library Committee
