SQA SPEAKING EXAM for Intermediate 2 French/Spanish – November 2013

The speaking exam for Intermediate 2 French/Spanish will take place week beginning 18^th November.  This assessment is worth 30% of the total marks available at Intermediate 2 and we would appreciate your assistance in ensuring that your son/daughter is fully prepared for the assessment which consists of 2 sections: –

• Pupils have to memorise a speech which has been written in class and corrected by the class teacher.  Each pupil has his/her own copy of the speech and it should be completely memorised by now. This section is worth 15 marks.
• Pupils have a series of questions and answers to be learned; again these have been prepared in class and corrected by the teacher.  Pupils should be learning these now.  This section is also worth 15 marks.

To get the best results pupils should spread the learning of their materials over the next few weeks spending some time every evening on their preparation; the more familiar pupils are with their materials the better their results are likely to be.  They must NOT leave their preparation until a week before their exam as they will then find that they have not left themselves enough time to prepare well and will not do themselves justice.

Once this speaking mark is added to 20 marks available for the job application letter written in the foreign language (in both the prelim and the final exam the exact same piece of writing is used; this work has also been prepared in class and corrected by the teacher), a total of 50% of the marks for Intermediate 2 are available for material which simply has to be learned. 

SQA SPEAKING EXAM for Intermediate 1 French/Spanish

The speaking exam for Intermediate 1 French/Spanish will take place week beginning 18^th November.  This assessment is worth 30% of the total marks available at Intermediate 1 and we would appreciate your assistance in ensuring that your son/daughter is fully prepared for the assessment.

The assessment consists of a short conversation between the pupil and his/her class teacher.  The conversation has already been prepared in class and corrected by the teacher.   Pupils should now be learning this.

To get the best results pupils should spread the learning of their materials over the weeks before the exam, spending some time every evening on their preparation; the more familiar pupils are with their materials the better their results are likely to be.  They must NOT leave their preparation until a few days before their exam as they will then find that they have not left themselves enough time to prepare well and will not do themselves justice.

Once this speaking mark is added to the 15 marks available for the paper written in the foreign language (in both the prelim and the final exam the exact same piece of writing is used; this work has also been prepared in class and corrected by the teacher), a total of 45% of the marks for Intermediate 1 are available for material which simply has to be learned.
