School Transitions

Transitions

The transition process for children heading off to school in August is well underway.

By now, children have all visited their feeder school on at least one occasion and for some children more visits are in the diary.

We have children going to Isobel Mair School, Crookfur Primary, St Cadoc’s Primary, Kirkhill Primary and Mearns Primary this year.

Teachers from some of the schools have dropped in to the Family Centre to say hello and spend a little time with the children.

If you have any queries about transitions to school, please ask Gary.

Shoe Bags

All children attending Isobel Mair Family Centre have previously been allocated a coloured shoe bag to co-ordinate with their key group colour. The number of bags have dwindled over time and we no longer have enough bags to go around.

Last year we replaced missing or damaged bags using nursery funds. The bags work out fairly expensive and as part of our efficiency savings we have decided it is no longer viable to replace bags year on year.

We are asking all parents to provide a bag for their child this year from the start of the new term.

Please ensure your child’s bag is named and all items inside are also named. The usual items should be accessible in the bag i.e. a change of clothing, soft shoes and wellington boots etc.

Your child will be allocated a numbered peg on their first day and should place the bag on the appropriate peg. We ask that parents take the bag home at the end of each session to free up space in the hallways.

Many Thanks

Crookfur Primary Transition Visits

Mrs McConnell has met with Mrs Jamieson from Crookfur Primary this morning and arranged a number of transition visits to the school.

Mrs McConnell will be speaking with parents today re the visits.

Transition visits will take place over the next 4 Wednesdays –

20th May

27th May

All 10.00 – 10.30/1.45 – 2.15pm

Please speak with Mrs McConnell for more details.

Transitions to Primary School

If your child is going to Primary School this August (2014) you should register this week.

Full details can be found within the Family Centre and also under the ‘news’ tab from our main webpage.

If your child is going to transition to Isobel Mair School, you should speak to Mrs Joanne Todd. Mrs Todd has all the appropriate documentation for you to complete to ensure a smooth transition.

Transition planning starts NOW so please ensure you let Mrs Todd and Mrs Quaile know which school you have registered your child at! This information will help staff organise working groups of children to ensure smooth transitions.

Settling in at IMFC

Sometimes it can be difficult to settle children into nursery following such a long Summer break. Whether you are the parent of a returning child or new child, please feel free to speak with your child’s key worker about the settling process. Remember, every child is different and what ‘works’ for your child may not be the same as another child. Work with us and I’m sure your child will settle just as quickly as they are able.

Let us know: Can we do any more to help ease your child’s transition from home to the Family Centre? If you feel we could improve or if you feel we are doing a good job……please speak to us or leave a comment in our comments, compliments and suggestion box.

Transitions

We are now into our 4th week of the transition process.

Teachers from all five feeder Primary Schools have now visited:

Mrs Nisbett from Crookfur Primary
Miss Doherty from St. Cadocs
Mrs Proven from Mearns Primary
Miss Cuthbert from Kirkhill Primary
Mrs. Dunbar from Isobel Mair School

Children have also visited the Primary Schools, either with parents or with staff from the Family Centre.

The transition process continues to progress well and it is felt this will have a very positive impact on children as they start their school life!

Let us know if you think we can support the transition in any other way.
