In response to particular children’s recent experiences we are planning to develop a hospital role play area within the Cara playroom. If you have any resources you think may be useful please let us know.

We are also planning a new mud kitchen for our outdoor grounds for learning. Do you have any pots, pans, chopping boards, utensils, oven cloths, tubs or items we could use to resource this area?

In addition, we would like to resource our expressive arts modelling area with some really nice recycled materials. We have plenty of cardboard cereal boxes and yogurt tubs etc. however less ‘fancy’ items. We are looking for gift boxes, ribbon, shells, corks, sequins and sparkles, large beads, fabric flowers and scarves, pieces of felt and lace, bows and clips and all things nice! We would be delighted to recieve any of these items from you – so have a good clear out 🙂

New Child Development Officer – Miss Colette Graham

We are delighted to announce that following recent interviews for the vacant position of Child Development Officer, Miss Colette Graham – a well known face around the Family Centre – was the successful candidate and will now become the new key worker for the yellow group in Cara playroom.

Colette started her career at Isobel Mair Family Centre when she embarked on her training as a Modern Apprentice almost two years ago and we are delighted she has now secured a permanent position.

We wish Colette every success in her post.

Eat Better Feel Better Programme

Donna has recently met with Katrina McFarlane, Health Improvement Practitioner to discuss the possibility of delivering a short course based around the development of practical food related skills with children and families.

Provisional arrangements have been made to bring in a community chef who will deliver a programme suitable for children young people and/or families to incorporate behaviour change strategies.

This is a great opportunity for parents who have children who are commonly classed as being ‘faddy eaters’ to come together, chat and share ideas about how to rebalance and regain control with healthier eating within the family.

Key areas of the short course include key healthy eating messages and recommendations, reading food labels, how to improve diet by reducing sugar, fat and salt intake, improving cooking methods and reducing convenience foods/choosing healthier options.

The 6 week programme will hopefully begin in January – a great healthy start to the New Year.  Please speak to Donna if you would like to note an interest in this group.
