Sports Day and Well Being Week

Sports Day and Wellbeing Week

Our Sports Day is scheduled for Friday 4th May. We will be working with the children to plan this event and see what ideas they come up with for activities and sporting challenges…..this could be interesting!

As part of our health and wellbeing focus, we would like to extend Sports Day into the following week (week beginning 4th May) by planning a Wellbeing Week.

We are in the process of contacting a range of professionals to support the nursery in the wellbeing focused week. So far the following events to promote wellbeing have been planned – please let us know if you would like to participate in any/all of the following and we will let you know as more activities are confirmed!

Postural Care

Postural Care

Joanne has been working closely with colleagues across the NHS and has organised a coffee and chat session with Kristin and Katrina (Paediatric Physiotherapy) to chat about postural care. If you would like to come along please join us in the parent’s room at 10.30 on Tuesday 17th April – straight after hydro splash class!

The Show

The children decided they wanted to put on a show today.

Ayanna came and told us she needed facepaint as it would “make us all better actors”, so we had to oblige!

The children then discussed lots of ideas about how to plan for a perfect show. Emilia reflected on her personal experiences when she told everybody that lights are important saying “we really need the lights off,  then on when we go on the stage. They did that at Disney on Ice”.

Luca and Mehr were excited to use the home made microphones and Sebastian and Eesa were keen to be photographer and videographed.

The children developed lots of curricular skills during this self directed interdisciplinary play experience including listening, sharing ideas, taking turns, IT skills, performing, celebrating success, designing, solving problems and had so much fun at the same time.

Well done everybody.

Self Directed Playful Learning

Today one of the children in the morning group was matching, sorting, naming and categorising a range of shapes. Orla was very interested in the kite and could talk at length about kites. Orla pointed out that today was  a great day to fly a kite as it was very windy and so the playful learning, directed by the children was triggered!

The children wondered if big kites or small kites would fly higher, so they made a range of sizes.

The children thought about the paper tearing and what could be done to help – they reinforced with sticks and tape.

The children thought that bags might catch the wind and fly even higher than a paper kite – we found some bags and used them too.

The children wondered if climbing to the high point on the hill would help – so they climbed the hill.

The children guessed that tying the kites to the mast of the pirate ship would really help to catch the wind and fly the kite – so they had a go at that too.

Have a look at our kite flying science experiment today!
