Parental Involvement and Engagement Census

East Renfrewshire Council and its educational establishments undertake regular periodic surveys of parents and carers.  Such surveys support school and local authority improvement planning and provide an opportunity for parents to share their thoughts on current and future involvement and engagement with schools.

Similar practice is undertaken by all local authorities in Scotland and educational establishments under their control.  In order to rationalise this approach to surveying parents/carers and in order to allow comparable consistent data to be collected nationally, which will assist in evaluating the impact of interventions and programmes and support future policy development, every parent/carer of a school pupil in Scotland is being invited to take part in the national Parental Involvement and Engagement Census.

Only one parent/carer per child will receive an email which will include a link to the survey and it is only necessary to complete the survey once per family, per school.  The survey should take no longer than ten minutes to complete. The survey will open on Monday 31st January and close on Monday 28th February 2022.

The data gathered will be used for statistical and research purposes and will provide East Renfrewshire Council and its schools with information to help:

  • plan, monitor and deliver better policies for the benefit of all,
  • identify and share best practice,
  • better understand some of the factors which influence parental involvement and engagement with our schools,
  • further enhance positive relationships with parents to secure positive outcomes for our children.

The information collected will also be securely shared with the Scottish Government to assist in evaluating the impact of national interventions and programmes and to support future policy development at a national level.

Further information on the collection and how the Education Department and Scottish Government will process the data collected is provided in the Council’s privacy statement and Scottish Government website:

Holocaust Memorial Day 2022 – Wed, 26th January at 7pm

East Renfrewshire and Renfrewshire Councils will jointly host their Holocaust Memorial Day Ceremony virtually this year on Wednesday, 26 January at 7pm.

The annual event cannot be held as it normally would due to Covid-19, so instead as in 2021 a Ceremony will be hosted virtually on the Councils’ Facebook and Twitter channels.

The theme for Holocaust Memorial Day 2022 is One Day.  Survivors of the Holocaust and of genocide often talk about the One Day when everything changed, sometimes for the worse and sometimes for better.

The Ceremony will have comments from Provost Fletcher of East Renfrewshire and Provost Cameron of Renfrewshire.  Amongst other things, the Ceremony will also include footage of local residents describing their family’s persecution and their subsequent move to Scotland; music provided by East Renfrewshire and Renfrewshire school pupils; a prayer; and an opportunity to light a candle in your own home in memory of all those who were murdered in the Holocaust, under Nazi persecution and in other genocides which have taken place such as in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

You can join the virtual memorial on Wednesday, 26 January from 7pm using the links below:

S5/6 Prelim Timetable

Please find the recently issued Senior Prelim TT for all S5/6 pupils. The prelims will run over two weeks, from January 24th until February the 3rd of February.

The preliminary examinations are a full set of assessments that closely resemble the upcoming final SQA exams. Pupils should have focused revision plans leading up to the assessments.

Please note  – there will be no exam leave for senior pupils during the prelims, however, during the fortnight the pupils will be allowed to revise in class while the assessments are ongoing.

Please be assured that all pupils entitled to support with SQA Assessments will receive their support in full for all of the assessment scheduled. Please ensure that that if you have an entitlement to support, including extra time allowance, it is vital that you use it or you risk not having the same support in the SQA Exams that follow.

As always I look forward to seeing how well our young people prepare and perform in the upcoming assessments.
