The University of Strathclyde will be offering the Scottish Space School programme for pupils in S5 again this year, this time in a virtual format. They have developed an online offering which will provide an opportunity to learn from some of the world’s leading figures in space travel, including NASA Astronauts and engineers.
The programme will run throughout the week beginning 14 June 2021 with virtual sessions taking place as follows:
- Monday 14 June 2021:
Morning Session: 09:15 – 12:30
Afternoon Session: 14:00 – 15:30
- Tuesday 15 June 2021:
Morning Session: 09:15 – 12:30
Afternoon Session: 14:00 – 15:30
- Wednesday 16 June 2021:
Morning session: 09:15 – 12:30
Evening session: 18:00 – 19:00*
- Thursday 17 June 2021:
Morning session: 09:15 – 12:30
Afternoon session: 14:00 – 15:30
- Friday 18 June 2021:
Afternoon session only: 14:00 – 16:00
*The evening session on Wednesday 16 June 2021 is the annual ‘Evening with NASA’ presentation which will be open to the public to also attend online.
Throughout the week, participants will hear from staff at the university and the project sponsor, Wood Plc, who will provide an insight into studying and working in the field of engineering, as well as hearing from colleagues at the NASA Johnston Space Centre. Participants will also take part in a group project throughout the week which they will present to a panel of judges made up of staff from the University, Wood Plc and NASA on the final afternoon with a prize awarded to the winning team.
Participants must be able to commit to attending all sessions as listed above.

The deadline for applications is Monday 8 March 2021.
The selection panel will meet early in April and all applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application by Friday 9 April 2021.
In the application form, pupils are asked to supply the name and contact details for a teacher who can provide a statement in support of their application.
Any student applying, should include Mr Boag’s details in their application AND send an email to Mr Boag (PT STEM) no later than Monday 8 March 2021 to allow for a statement in support of your application to be submitted by Monday 15 March 2021.
Unfortunately, given the current situation and uncertainty in terms of travel out with the UK, the week-long ‘Learning Journey to NASA’ trip cannot take place.
