Our annual Barrhead High Conic Hill walk has become a Barrhead tradition over the last few years. This year, we cannot head to Balmaha as a group but it seems a shame to miss it, so Mrs Wallace came up with the idea of a virtual hillwalk – that is what I call thinking outside the box!
We agreed it would be fun to attempt a virtual hillwalk and in the spirt of our mental health and wellbeing week last week, we are encouraging everyone to get active and to take part.
Your challenge is to walk the same distance as our Conic Hill walk or climb the same height over the next week – or both! Conic Hill is 2.5 miles or 4.02 km. It has a height 361 m (or 1184 feet). So, if you really want to challenge yourself, you could use your stairs (there are lots of steps on the Conic Hill walk!). Mrs Wallace’s house stairs are 6.45m so she will need to go up and down them 623 times!
Remember, this is a Barrhead High community event so we are looking for pupils, staff, parents and friends to take part in the challenge as usual!
Pupils can join in on the fun by heading to our Conic Hill Google Classroom: v3yjx2g
We would like you to complete the challenge by Sunday 7th June and post a photo or screenshot of your walk on the Google Classroom page (for staff and pupils) or email/tweet them in for others. (Strava is a great free app for recording walks/runs/cycles). We can’t wait to see the photos of your walk on the page or on the school Twitter feed.
Hopefully we can collate a video of this year’s virtual walk too!
Since the first Conic Hillwalk for the Nepal earthquake, we have used the walk to fundraise for charity. We will identify a relevant charity in these COVID times (suggestions welcome) and we will set up a parentpay account for this. Pupils can seek sponsors from family and friends for their efforts or those who cannot take part physically can make a donation if they choose – details to follow.
Are you up to the challenge? Let’s all go for it.
Mr Sinclair
