Certificates

In P4.14 we celebrate our achievements and effort every day through praise, stickers and many other little ways.

However on a Friday we have a mini awards ceremony to celebrate our effort and achievement over the week. Certificates are given for language and maths as well as stickers for spelling and mental maths.

Just look how proud our certificate recipients are! Congratulations!

Language Activities

When the children have completed their teacher led language activities they have a range of different approaches to extend their learning within language.

There are active ways to revise spelling words.

Reading and comprehension activities.

As well as ways to develop their writing. Today a group worked together to write a puppet show that they have asked to show to the nursery.

All of these activities are available every day and the children can choose the area of language that they want to develop and the active learning approach that suits them.

Voting Day!

In Mearns we have a number of committees and every year the children get to put themselves forward to represent their class.

This morning a number of our class delivery short speeches stating their reasons for wanting to be voted onto the various committees. Then everyone in the class voted for the people they thought would represent us well.

It was a close run thing with there even being a tie breaker! However we are delighted to unveil our four new class representatives!

Maths Journals

In maths we spend a lot of time exploring and discussing our thinking and the ways to approach different calculations and aspects of maths.

Today we started our P4 maths journals. These will allow us to track the different mathematical concepts we have explored as well as letting us record how to approach each concept.

They will contain a mix of teacher guidance and our own ideas and approaches. We started by revisiting subtraction today.

Kandinsky

Previously we explored the art of Joan Miro and today we looked at the work of Wassily Kandinsky.

We learned that he liked to use colours and shapes to reflect emotions within his work.

Using this information we explored our own emotions, thought of the colours that reflected how we were feeling and created our own Kandinsky inspired pieces of work.

I wonder if you will be able to guess our emotions when the work is completed. Check back later in the week for our completed pieces of work……

Reading Rocks!

This morning we were introduced to a new to us resource to help develop our reading skills and expand our general knowledge.

The cards contain a mix of fiction and nonfiction texts with questions for the children to answer and mark independently.

There was a real buzz in the classroom this morning and when asked to describe the activity the words given included:

  • Challenging
  • Fun
  • Entertaining
  • Interesting

I wonder what interesting facts the children will share with their families tonight?
