Let’s Find Sticks!

We needed to find sticks for our activities next week.  We also chose a tree and we will take a photo of it every month to see it change.

We learned that if you look back at a tree through your legs and can see the whole tree, then if you measure  to the tree, then that is it’s height!

We observed the twigs under the digital microscope t see if anything was living on them and to see the different parts of the twigs.

The class tree.

Feel Your Bones!

We had a feel of our bones today.  The felt all knobbly and bobbly.  We knew that our ribs protected our lungs.  we didn’t know that children’s bones are “bendy” and aren’t fully formed.  We looked at an x ray of an adult hand and a child’s hand and compared the differences.

We made our skeletons with cotton buds.

Learning spelling and phonics

We learn our phonics and spelling actively in class.  There are so many ways to do this.  here are just a few examples of what we do in class.  There are so many ways to learn!

Boggle: The first letter is given and you then have to use the available letters in the box to make words with three or more letters.

Writing our words with dots.

Writing Stories

We write in class all the time, but on our special writing day, we focus on spelling, finger spaces, full stops and capital letters.   All attempts are welcome and praised .  Some of us have a “rubber habit”  , when we need to rub out every two seconds!  This is discouraged!  We learn from our mistakes for next time! Almost all of the children are now writing independently.
