We have started learning subtraction using concrete materials and loose parts. We are using our jotters a lot now in the class. We also have had lots of practice on addition and a quick revision of telling time.
Month: January 2020
Celebrating Chinese New Year!
We were learning about Chinese New Year – the year of rat: 2020. We have learned about the story of the great animal race. We made animal masks and Chinese lanterns.
Positional language
This week we had fun learning about positional language, using the floor robots called Bee Bots.
Gym time!
Burns night
We were learning about famous Scottish poet, Robert Burns. We have learned the song: “Auld Lang syne”, made Scottish flags and had a class performance. We really enjoyed singing Auld Lang Syne!
Being imaginative!
In P1.1, we are always as busy as bees. Arts and craft table was definitely a favourite one this week. Lots of fun during free play with construction, Lego, board games or simply role play games!
Addition
In numeracy, along with number formation, number stories, forward/backward counting, we focused on addition this week. We used different loose parts and concrete materials like cubes to help us for adding 2/3 numbers.
Reading and writing!
We are really enjoying our reading time in P 1.1. We are using the pointers to help us read the words and the word hunt game!
In literacy, we also continued working on learning new sounds and worked on writing words and sentences. Look at our different writing activities!
Feelings and emotions!
We had a fun time talking about our feelings and emotions. Regular talking and listening in circle time helps us to understand other people’s feelings and also control our own emotions. We are developing a nice, caring learning environment and enjoying better friendship in the classroom. Mrs Patra was very pleased about the way in which we all shared our emotions with the class!
