P1 Registration Guidelines

Parents/carers of children resident in Bearsden Primary’s delineated area and whose 5th birthday falls between 1 March 2017 and the last day of February 2018 should register their child for primary education week beginning 9th January from 1.30pm – 3pm in Bearsden Primary School.

On registration, parents/carers must produce the child’s birth certificate or passport.  Proof of the child’s residency must also be presented by means of producing child benefit detail/bank statement showing child benefit and council tax notice/bill and recent Utility bill (within the past 3 months).  If child benefit not available, family tax credit award notice (TCAN) should be presented.   If the family are not eligible for child benefit, they can show the child’s Health Visitor book.  In cases where children are residing with relatives, legal confirmation of guardianship will also be required.

Parents/carers however have the right to make a placing request for their child(ren) to be educated in a school other than the one which serves their area. Information providing details of how to make a placing request is available on the East Dunbartonshire Council website and form Shared Services – Education. Requests should be submitted prior to 15 March, if possible.

A list containing the names, addresses and telephone numbers of other schools in the area is available for reference at the local school, the education office and www.eastdunbarton.gov.uk. Where a parent/carer does not wish to make a placing request, his/her child(ren) may be enrolled in the local school at the time of registration provided there is sufficient accommodation in the school.

Parents/guardians considering to defer their child’s entry to Primary 1 should register their child for primary education in the first instance.  Further information on deferring entry can be obtained from the school.

These arrangements do not apply to children whose fifth birthday falls on or after 1 March 2017.  Parents/guardians may however make an early entry request for admission of such a child to primary school only if resident in East Dunbartonshire and details of the procedure may be obtained from the East Dunbartonshire Council website or form Shared Services – Education.
