Focused Areas of Learning – Eco – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS *

The Planets class looked closely at the Willowbank school staff. We matched a range of staff photographs (using colour and black and white images).

We also went on a “hide and seek” hunt around the class to find a range of school staff, then we drew a line identifying the staff name to the correct photograph.

We also discussed where we would find certain staff members – would it be in the school office, a classroom, the dinner hall etc.

Focused Areas of Learning – Partnership for the Goals – Team Working Challenge

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, EFFECTIVE CONTRIBUTORS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS *

The Planets class enjoyed a team building challenge. We set Levi 15 seconds to build a tower using 20 blocks. He found this very tricky and kept running out of time.

He decided to ask True to help. They still ran out of time. Then Chloe offered to help too. The tower was getting bigger but they were still running out of time.

Mrs Vernon, Miss Jones and Mrs McInally all helped too and finally with the help of a team, we beat the timer and built the tower of 20 blocks.

Science Week fun in the Planets!

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS, EFFECTIVE CONTRIBUTORS, CONFIDENT INDIVIDUALS *

This week, Willowbank are celebrating Science Week! The Planets started the week with a BANG by carrying out a range of science experiments.

We made invisible ink by drawing or writing a message with lemon juice and then adding some heat. Our images slowly appeared like magic!

We tried out the ringing spoon experiment where we tied a spoon with some string, held the string in our ears and tapped the spoon and magnified the sound. It sounded like a “gong”.

We managed to make popcorn dance by using water, vinegar and baking soda.

We managed to make an orange float and sink in water. It floated on top of the water at first, once it was peeled, it sank to the bottom!

Finally, we tried the coke and mentos science experiment outside. We loved watching the soda erupt!

World Book Day fun!

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, CONFIDENT INDIVIDUALS, EFFECTIVE CONTRIBUTORS *

In the Planets class, we enjoyed some World Book Day fun. We read a story called “A Monster Surprise” and created our own monster. We had to make choices on how many legs it would have, how many eyes, if it horns or wings etc.

We also read 5 different stories and rated them in order from our most favourite to least favourite. We read Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks and the three bears, The Gingerbread Man, Billy Goats Gruff and Jack and the Beanstalk.

We also played a game of ‘Who am I’ where we wore a character headband and had to guess who we were when given a range of clues. We had lots of fun playing this!

We completed some Health and Wellbeing ICE Pack lessons focusing on emotions. We sorted a range of emotions into positive and negative emotions (worried, shy, excited etc) and then made our own mood monsters.

We also looked closely at one of the SHANARRI indicators about being responsible. We brainstormed ideas about ways we can be responsible and tried to take on some chores around the class.

Finally, we enjoyed celebrating Purple Friday where we tasted a range of “purple” foods including beetroot, red grapes, purple gummy sweets, purple coloured pringles and vimto juice.
