Titanic cheese tasting

I hope all of Comets had a great February break!

It’s been a good few days in Comets this week. They had Mrs Macdonald on Wednesday and did some fantastic art.

On Thursday we did some cheese tasting and we had crackers and oatcakes with them. We enjoyed the crackers, but the cheese was a bit smelly. We tasted cheese as it was a snack that was ate on the Titanic and that is our topic for term 3.

On Friday we did some literacy and numeracy games. We did games that we had to play by ourselves and games that we played with our classmates and took turns and helped each other out when we needed help. We had great listening and understanding skills. It was a fun afternoon and full of learning.

Scottish landmarks – Loch Ness

It’s been a great week in the Comets. We have been busy with looking at the Loch Ness and it’s monster!

We watched some videos of the Loch Ness and Nessie. We then hunted for the Loch Ness monster in the school and found some very interesting facts about the monster and the Loch Ness. We made the monster out of play doh and we even did some Loch Ness Monster origami. The comets had Greta fun learning about Loch Ness and Nessie.

We also practiced trying our show laces and did out local walk around the community. We looked at different signs and saw a lot of things on our walk. We were safe throughout our walk and responsible.

The comets did a science experiment. They put water into gloves and then we put them in the freezer. We are going to see if they are frozen when we come back and how long they take to melt. The comets also drew on their gloves so they looked great.

Comets made love hearts for Valentine’s Day and some of them gave it to their class mates. They had fun cutting the shapes, gluing and writing on them.

The comets did a lot of hard work this week and have been really busy. They have worked well with each other and have been responsible with new tasks and in the class.

There are some pictures from Miss a Robertsons leaving party with Comets. They had a lot of fun and have been missing her.

Have a great February break.

Chinese New Year and Scottish Landmarks

This week has been very busy in the Comets class. We started the week looking at Chinese New Year and made our own Chinese lanterns. The Comets also wrote their own names in Chinese by looking at a Chinese alphabet and picking out the letters of their names. We worked on numbers and did some Chinese sums. The comets enjoyed looking at videos about Chinese New Year and how it is celebrated around the world.

We then looked at the Kelpies. The comets enjoyed watching videos and looking at pictures of the kelpies and how they were made. They liked the story of the Kelpies. We then made our own Kelpies with different coloured tissue paper and black card. We then had the challenge of coming up with our own mystical creature using salt dough. The comets made the salt dough by themselves and measured out all the ingredients. We then made out creatures and will paint them next week when they are dry.

We made our own jam sandwiches/toast. The comets spread the jam and then made themselves a cup of tea to go with their food. The sandwiches and tea were a hit.

This week we have been going over some life skills. The comets worked together to wash and dry dishes, sweep the floor and wipe down the tables. Comets did really well with these life skills and worked together very well.
