Team MC

Hello from Lockerbie!

Hello from Lockerbie!

We’re having an excellent time (although the weather has been temperamental) and are all enjoying ourselves. So far the children have taken part in team games, kayaking, canoeing, abseiling, the hi-ropes and team games. As usual the food is excellent and all the pupils are being well fed πŸ™‚

Last night the weather was cold and very rainy so we decided to stay in and the Lockerbie staff organised a quiz for us.

Wifi isn’t great here so we will try and upload photos when we can.

World Book Day

Well done to all the pupils (and teachers) who dressed up to celebrate World Book Day today.

Lot’s of photos still to follow from our amazing World Book Day today.

We are delighted to get a special mention on the official East Ayrshire Police twitter page. Our lovely campus officer PC Dempster visited today and read ‘Topsy and Tim visit the Police Station’ to the infant department.

Sumdog East Ayrshire Competition

Until Friday 6th March there is an East Ayrshire Schools Sumdog Challenge. All pupils can access this as home for additional Numeracy homework. The competition is based on accuracy and not number of questions answered – so read the questions very carefully.

Good Luck!

Primary 7 Homework – World Book Day

World Book Day

On Thursday 5th March we will be celebrating World Book Day. Along with planned whole school activities, Primary 7 have their own World Book Day home challenges to complete. There will be no spelling homework this week to allow the learners more time to complete the home challenges.

On Thursday the learners can come dressed as their favourite character from a book.

To celebrate World Book Day, and promote reading for enjoyment, there are FREE audio books available here –Β  https://www.worldbookday.com/world-of-stories/

Numeracy HomeworkΒ

For Numeracy homework the March Rigour Calendars are available below for 1st, 2nd and 3rd level (challenge). Learners can start completing their calendars this week. Completed calendars can be handed in at the end of March to receive house tokens.

Happy Reading!

Aladdin Cast

The cast for the senior summer show ‘Aladdin’ was announced this afternoon. We are very proud of allΒ the pupils who auditioned for partsΒ andΒ the teachers found it difficultΒ to cast the show as the talent was so high! The pupils know that all the parts are important and we can’t wait to start rehearsals.

Scripts will be given out in due course and rehearsals will start shortly in school.

Thank you!

Primary 7 Homework

Homework will be issued on Tuesday this week due to Aladdin auditions today and then our final swimming session today.

Pupils can access Sumdog and Bug Club at home.

Remember to hand in permission forms for our trip to Dean Park on Friday!

Thank you,

Miss Mudge

P7 Homework

As this is a two day week no homework will be assigned to Primary 7.

Auditions for our senior summer show ‘Aladdin’ will be held on Monday afternoon. Pupils whoΒ stated they would like a speaking or singing roleΒ have been given part of the script to practice at home.

Happy Practicing!

Primary 7 Curriculum Update – Term 2

Primary 7 Blog Update

Topic

In Topic we are focusing on Land Uses, The four different types of Land Uses are Tourism, Recreational, Residential and Business/Work. Tourism is used mainly for countries’ economies such as Thailand, UAE and more. Tourism focuses on people entering, leaving or going to a different part of countries. These can be categorised as Outbound, Inbound and Domestic tourism. Recreational Land Uses are places like the Palace Theatre, Burns Mall and Rugby Park. Residential is used for housing areas such as Longpark, Bonnyton, Crosshouse. Business Land Uses are places like Fast Food, Restaurants, Kilmarnock F.C and many shops. We have also been building on our mapping skills by finding and locating information using atlases.

Health & Wellbeing

In Health and Wellbeing, we have been learning about Substance Misuse. We have been learning that alcohol can be addictive and can cause some types of Cancer. Alcohol is also a depressant as well as a toxin. We love our swimming lessons on a Monday. We have all made individual achievements. The Galleon staff have complimented on us on our behaviour and hard work. We have also been building on our gymnastic skills with Mr B. We still do our two PATHS lessons a week focusing on our emotional health and wellbeing.

Numeracy

In Numeracy, we have covered Negative Integers and all fell we have a better understanding of this concept. We have now moved on to Fractions, Decimals and Percentages and continuing our knowledge of Time as our Beyond Number topic. Every day at the start of Numeracy or the end of Numeracy, we do the Fast 5 to revise concepts taught and new skills.

Literacy

This term the focus is non-fiction reading and writing skills. We have been transferring our active comprehension skills to non-fiction books. We have been honing our note taking skills and using our notes to create a new text. We have also reading for enjoyment the Eejits, the Scottish version of Roald Dahl’s β€œThe Twits”.

This term we are looking forward to –

  • Dean Park Visit
  • The Science Centre
  • Lockerbie ( 6 weeks to go!)
