Primary 1/2 Home Learning

Hello Primary 1/2,

I hope you had a very merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year with your lovely families. I know this is not how any of us expected to start the new year and I can’t wait to see you all soon to hear all about your Christmas break. Although, we won’t see each other face to face for now, please remember I am only at the other side of the computer screen to support you.

Happy New Year to all our children and parents/carers.  I hope you have all had a lovely Christmas break.  It is unfortunate that we can not all be together in school again as this new term starts, however we will work hard to make sure all children can continue with their learning.

You will find the grid with tasks for Monday (11th January) and Tuesday (12th January) attached to this post.  This will also be on our Primary 4 Teams page too.

I am available on email if you have any questions or concerns about your child or the tasks to be completed. Please email me with any questions at susan.travers@eastayrshire.org.uk

I will attach work for subsequent days on a daily basis from Wednesday 13th January.  This will be on our Teams page and children should check they know which spelling/reading and maths groups they work with, so as to know which folders to look in to find daily tasks.  Please email me if your child is unsure and I can give you this information.

I look forward to hearing from you next week and seeing some of your hard work.

Take care and stay safe

Home Learning Primary 6 – wb 11th January

Hello Primary 6,

Happy New Year! It’s not the start to the school year we expected but hopefully, we’ll all be safely back in school soon. Until then I have created home learning tasks for Monday and Tuesday. I have posted the tasks below but I will also post them on Microsoft TEAMS. Going forward TEAMS will be the place where all home learning tasks will be posted. I’ll also be able to communicate with you via the chat feature on TEAMS throughout the school day.

I’ll also post ‘a beginning of the week check-in’ form on TEAMS which will replace our class feelings books and feelings box whilst at home. There’s no obligation to fill this in (just like in class) but it’s there if you do want to share how you’re feeling during this strange time.

If you need to contact me you can email or go onto the TEAMS chat page during school hours.

Hopefully, this won’t be for too long and we’ll be back in our class soon. Until then stay safe and I’ll speak to you soon.

Home Learning Week beginning 11th January

We have adapted our format for Home Learning.  For P1 and P2 work will be shared on the class blogs area of the website.  For P3-P7 children will be using the TEAMS tool as the main platform for receiving and sharing work.  The TEAMS tool is accessible through GLOW.  Please follow this link for guidance on accessing Teams Microsoft Teams Guidance for Parents.docx.  Children have received a copy of their GLOW email and password. If your child is unsure of this  please use the website query page.

On Monday 11th and Tuesday 12th January, activities will be accessible on class blogs for all children and added to the P3-P7 TEAMS pages.

On Monday and Tuesday there will be literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing tasks.  From Wednesday children will receive daily tasks in literacy and numeracy.  There will also be a further other curricular area (IDL) activity.  We request that literacy and numeracy tasks are completed daily, IDL tasks can be completed if time allows.  Completed work can be emailed directly to class teachers.

Message from the Head Teacher

Dear Parents/Carers,

On behalf of all the staff in Mount Carmel I would like to wish you and your family a Happy New Year.

Unfortunately we will not be welcoming all our children back as we would have wished. Circumstances require us to move to a period of home learning for most. I know that the previous period of lockdown was difficult for some families. We have taken on board your comments from our survey of September 2020 and had put plans in place based on these and the experiences of staff who were organising home learning.

Unlike the previous period of lockdown our school will remain open and children of key workers will attend Mount Carmel rather than a Hub. Our staff will work on a rota basis within the school to support these children and when not in school teachers will prepare home learning activities.

As we are able to be in school it will be easier for us to contact you and the children and to adapt to any changing circumstances.

Children that are attending school tomorrow hot lunches will be available for all children, this will be deducted  from ParentPay accounts unless your child has Free School Meal entitlement.

On Thursday and Friday children may come to school in their own clothes. As of Monday 11th January all children should wear school uniform.  All children should come to the main entrance tomorrow for 9am where they will then be split into two bubbles.  Children will be dismissed from the main entrance tomorrow.  There after Bubble 1 will enter and be dismissed via the Primary 2 door, Bubble 2 will enter and be dismissed via the Primary 6 and 7 door.

Tomorrow we will give details of how home learning will be organised initially.

I know this is a difficult and worrying time for everyone. Please be assure we will support our children the best we can.

Outdoor play in hub

Dear Parents and Carers,

Happy New Year!!

As part of our daily routine within the hubs, we are hoping to get the children out to play as often as possible (weather permitting). We would really appreciate your help in assuring that if you are planning on sending your children to our hub that you make sure they have warm clothing and also send in a spare set of trousers in case they get wet or dirty from outdoor play. We will, as always, ensure your child is safe whilst out playing in the cold weather.  We are looking forward to welcoming the children back into school. As always, a big thank you from all the staff for your ongoing support.
