Hello and welcome to the Primary 6 home learning page. Your child will be given a jotter in which to complete this. Please check this over and feel free to write a compliment or let us know if your child struggled with anything.

P6 have been given the opportunity to choose a library book according to their Accelerated Reading ZPD number. Reading assessments that are carried out throughout the year mean that their ZPD level can change.

Once a book has been read, the children can do a reading comprehension quiz in school or at home to check their understanding of what they have read.

They are also allowed to borrow books from our class library. Please encourage your child to choose a book from the school or class library and have a browse at the huge list of books online at MyOn. Please also encourage them to read regularly at home.

 

Numeracy

P6 have been learning about place value with large numbers, understanding the value of each digit in a number. They have been comparing and ordering and are now rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000.

Japan

Here are some suggestions for homework related to Kensuke’s Kingdom and Japan. Feel free to choose which ones to complete over the next few weeks. Mrs Scarisbrick and I would love to see your finished work.

Create an origami object of your choice.	Find out how to say 10 words/phrases in Japanese.	List 5 manufacturers from Japan.	Research Samurai traditions. Bullet point 10 traditions.	Find two websites about Japan and evaluate their good and bad points.
Mount Fuji is a volcano in Japan. Write 5 facts about it.	Write out a Japanese recipe.	Investigate what natural disasters often occur in Japan.	Design a kimono for a friend/relative.	Think of an interesting question about Japan for your classmates to answer.
Use Google Maps to locate Japan. Write down 10 towns/cities.	Compare having a bath in Mauchline to having a bath in Tokyo.	Teach an older relative/sibling to count to 10 in Japanese.	Find out what a torii is and either draw or make a model of one.	Make a Japanese rock garden called a karesansui.
Design your own Japanese style kite.	Find out the current exchange rate from the pound to Japanese yen.	Plan a journey to Japan. Find out cost and travel times.	Write about/cut out a story in the newspaper or online about Japan.	Construct a 3D volcano. Can you get it to erupt?
