WB: 26th February 2024

P6 have been focused on mental health. The 5th -11th of February was Children’s Mental Health Week. The theme for Children’s Mental Health Week 2024 is ‘My Voice Matters’. We  discussed important topics such as feeling lonely, making friends and healthy relationships. We then made some lovely mental health awareness e-posters. See the pictures below:

This month, we focused on artist studies. We looked at Scottish graffiti artists and Bansky. We had a great debate about whether graffiti is art or vandalism! We had a go at creating our own graffiti name tags! See our art below:

As part of our Mary Queen of Scots topic, we looked at 16th century Scottland and castles in Scotland. Check out our charcoal castle art!

P6 have been learning about substance missuse and the effects of smoking, vaping, alcohol and drugs on our body. They also created some amazing persuasive posters to encourage people to stop smoking.

Finally, P6 completed their Leadership of Learning course! Next, they will use the skills they’ve learned to run some sports sessions for our ECC children.

WB: 22nd January 2024

P6 have been busy, busy, busy since the start of the new term! We took part in the Climate Ready Classrooms Day and learned a lot about climate change and the effects on our planet. We have also been busy ensuring we know how to keep safe on the internet. We wanted to share our learning with others so made some posters for others to view. In maths, we have began looking at fractions. In literacy, we have been studying our Scots comic book “Asterix and the Olympic Gemmes”. In PE we have started our rugby block. This term, our topic is Mary Queen of Scots. We have began looking at Mary’s family tree and even created our own!

Learning Scots Language

P6 have been learning some Scots words! Tam O’Shanter (our class poem) contains lots of unfamilliar Scottish words. You can check the meaning of words using a scots dictionary. Here is a link to the scots dictionary website:

Spelling

P6 have been hard at work learning their new sounds. Here are some pictures of our spelling from this week.

Japan Powerpoints

Primary 6 have been working on creating Powerpoints about Japan. They researched Japanese culture, food, people, weather and other facts. They have been working on this for the past few weeks and we are almost finished. P6 have put so much effort and time into these and they are looking amazing! I’m so proud of each and every one of you!

In class, children will present thier PowerPoints to the rest of the class and gather feedback on their PowerPoint. Powerpoints can be accessed from home so ask your child to show you their Powerpoint!

Dumfries House Visit

During our recent trip to Dumfries House, children took part in a STEM Witches and Potions activity. We had so much fun learning chemistry and taking part in various experiments. We also had some fun exploring the estate! Click the link to see some photos of our visit!

Massage in Schools

P6 have been taking part in the The Massage in Schools Programme (MISP). This is a peer massage programme, in which only children massage children, whilst the adults (teacher/assistant) observe and facilitate the routine. It intends to give children the chance to experience nurturing touch at school in a safe and creative way.
