Listening to the Trees

And the birch says                                                                                                                 it’s about dancing and colour

and the rowan says                                                                                                               it’s about berries and buds

and the willow says                                                                                                                it’s about shape and shelter

and the hazel says                                                                                                                  it’s about love and lichen

and the aspen says                                                                                                                 it’s about growth and wind

and I say it’s about listening to trees

The Heart of the Tree

What does he plant who plants a tree?                                                                    He plants the friend of sun and sky;                                                                          He plants the flag of breezes free,                                                                              The shaft of beauty, towers high…                                                                               … These things he plants who plants a tree.

Woodman Spare that Tree

Woodman spare that tree!                                                                                              Touch not a single bough!                                                                                                 In youth it sheltered me,                                                                                                   And I’ll protect it now…
