Drongan Primary will be supporting the Scottish Poppy Appeal again this year by selling poppies. Our P7 Head Pupils will be visiting classes with the box of poppies and children are welcome to bring in a donation to put in the tin in exchange for a poppy to wear.
We will also be supporting the Poppy Appeal next Wednesday (11th November) on Armistice Day. Mrs Shields has volunteered to make poppy themed cupcakes, with all proceeds going to the Scottish Poppy Appeal. If you would like to order a cupcake for your child (you can order up to 4), please complete the slip at the bottom of the letter that was sent home this week and return it to school with the money. Cupcakes will cost 50p each and the final day for order slips to be returned is Monday 9th November.
Please click on the link to find a PowerPoint video presentation providing information about Active Literacy Programme. This is an approach to teaching literacy that is consistent across all stages in the school.
As we are unable to invite you into the school at present we are keen to communicate as much as possible to provide you with information about your child’s learning.
I hope you find the presentation informative. Thank you to Mrs Bradley PT for putting this together.
We are delighted to announce that this session’s probationer, Miss Lauren Dyce, successfully interviewed for the Primary 3 vacancy. We are all delighted that Lauren will be staying with us. We have also been told that our probationer, who will cover P6 next session, is Miss Rebecca Smith. Miss Smith was with us earlier in the session as a final year student. We are delighted to be welcoming Miss Smith back into the team.
There is always great excitement at this time of year with the many awards that are received by pupils for hard word, perseverance, resilience etc. Our first announcement is the new Head and Depute boys and girls for next session. Usually this is done at the whole school prize giving ceremony and badges are handed over by the outgoing out going pupil leaders, sadly this cannot be the case this year.
All staff at the school are asked to give their nominations before the final selection is made. Many congratulations to our new appointees.
Depute Head Boy: Cyran Alexander Head Boy: Cole Bickerton
Depute Head Girl: Alex Borthwick Head Girl: Iona MacDonald
The Drongan Nature Club potatoes were harvested at the weekend, unfortunately not by the children. The total harvest was 120 potatoes weighing just over 3.3kg. The largest potato weighed 155g while the smallest (and there were several) weighed just 1 gram. The average weight of a single potato was 28g.
Yesterday saw the Drongan kids taking part in Mrs Coulter’s Garden Obstacle Course – lots of great ideas – and Mrs Mitchell’s ‘Find the Missing Partner’ (socks). Lots of great photos and videos came in for the blog. Today the kids have been challenged to try Mrs Bradley’s Ball Bounce and Mrs Glasgow’s Welly Toss.
Grace made an underwater theme with the craft box that the school dropped off last week (donated by Coalfield Community via Helping Hands) Grace has dressed up to fit with the theme too.
Helping Hands bags of activities are all labelled for each Primary child in Drongan and sorted into streets, ready to go out on Monday! What a generous donation from the Coalfield Community to Helping Hands and the children of Drongan.
