Inclusion Week 2021 – Plans, information and helpful links

Below you will find information and links to different activities we were exploring during our Inclusion Week. This took place from Monday 4th – Friday 8th October 2021.

Monday – Active Numeracy Day (Dyscalculia Awareness)

On Monday the children took part in various active numeracy activities in class to explore the difficulties and strengths of people who have Dyscalculia.

Tuesday – Active Literacy Day (Dyslexia Awareness)

On Tuesday the children took part in various active literacy activities in class to explore the challenges and strengths of people with Dyslexia.

What is Dyslexia?

Wednesday – No Pens Wednesday

On Wednesday the children spent the whole day learning without using pens or pencils. They focussed on alternative methods of learning, and on the importance of talking and listening. The main focus of the day was communication. The children also had an outdoor focus on this day.

Thursday – ADHD Awareness Day

On Thursday the children learned about ADHD. They learned about the difficulties and strengths of people who have ADHD, and focussed on celebrating strengths and individuality, as well as on the importance of kindness and supporting others.

P1-3 based their day on ‘Shine’ by Sarah Asuquo (information about the book is linked below).

ADHD Foundation

Friday – Mental Health Awareness Day

On Friday the children focussed on mental health. They learned about what mental health is and about how to take care of their mental health. They used some resources from the Young Minds website (https://www.youngminds.org.uk/).

P1-3 based their activities on ‘The Colour Monster’ by Anna Llenas (information about the book is linked below).

Summary of ‘The Colour Monster’ by Anna Llenas

P4-7 focussed on self-care strategies such as mindfulness, talking to people we trust, exercise, getting outdoors, and doing things we enjoy.

All children are encouraged to access the Virtual Calm Corner (below) to support their mental health at home.
