Scotland Rocks – Times Table Competition

There is going to be a times table competition called ‘Scotland Rocks’ which has been set up for the school to take part in.  It will run from the 8th-11th June where you need to answer as many questions correctly as possible in that four day period and you will have the chance to win prizes and get a certificate.  The trial has begun so you can log on any time before the competition week to choose an Avatar and practise your tables.  The website will give you a ‘Gig’ to do when you first go on and sets the level that you will work on.  Here’s your username details and the link to follow.  Looks fun! Todays Assignments Wed 27th

Good morning P4B and welcome back! I hope you had a great long weekend. I know that it is getting more difficult to concentrate and stay in a routine (for me as well). You have today, Thursday and Friday to do these tasks really well. Just do your best and remember to focus on the positives. Have a good day!

Literacy – Acrostic Poem

You are going to write an acrostic poem based on pets. We did one on St Patrick in class, this is the same type of poem. Look at the sheet below to help you and also follow and complete the self-assessment sheet as a checklist for yourself. You can write it out on paper and include illustrations to enhance your poem. You are welcome to choose any animal or pet name to make the letters down the side. I will allocate this for Wed and Thurs to give you plenty time. acrostic poem / acrostic self-assessment

Numeracy – Multiplication

Multiplication work- complete only Exercise 1 Q1-3 in Chapter 5.  Remember you multiply each number on the top by the number on the bottom. You might have some lonely numbers that need to be carried to the next column just like we have in addition sums.  Coral-Homework-Ch-05 Whole Numbers 2 (1)

IDL – Weather in USA

Take a look at the attached Powerpoint to find out about weather around the world. Then, we would like you to find out as much as you can about weather in the United States of America. t-t-5210-climates-around-the-world-powerpoint_ver_6 (1) (1)

What climate zones is the USA part of?

Where is the warmest and coldest place in the USA?

What extreme weather happens in the USA?

Where would you prefer to live in the USA?

You can make a PowerPoint/Word Document/Poster to display your information. Feel free to include images and decoration.

To make your movies nights more exciting, you could make popcorn with your family. Above is a video of how to do this. You can add lots of different flavours to it. If you manage to do this, please show us a photo but, if not, dont worry – maybe do it another time.

You could also make a box for your popcorn as per the attached template. Or create cinema tickets or posters advertising your favourite movie.

Todays Assignments Wed 20th

Good morning P4B, I hope you are all doing well. Here are today’s tasks, only do as much as you can. The weather is looking a bit better today so hopefully we can get outside for a while. Have a super day!

Literacy – Dictionary work

Complete only Task 1 and Task 2.  If you don’t have a dictionary at home then look the words up online.  If using the internet leave the page number column blank. Dictionary skills

Family game – You can play this with anybody in your house who is free or you can do it on your own.

Word Race: Each family member will need paper and a pencil for this game. Family members take turns to choose a word for play by randomly choosing a page of the dictionary and then finding the longest word on the page. The chooser writes the word on a piece of paper and places it in centre of table. Each family member then writes as many words as they can, using only the letters of the chosen word, in a two-minute time limit. The winner of each round is the person who finds the most words. You can increase the difficulty of the game by making a rule that words must have at least four letters.

Numeracy – Times Tables

Here are some ideas for activities to practise your times tables. You can also use TopMarks (Daily10/Hit the Button etc)

  1. Use matching cards from Monday to practise your tables.
  2. Time yourself writing out 3 times tables of your choice.
  3. Get a family member to test you on your times table facts.
  4. Make a poster of your favourite times table with all the facts.

IDL – Lego Challenge

Use Lego or any other materials to make a ship or boat. Have fun!

Todays Assignments Tues 19th

Good morning P4B, I hope you are all okay. I am hoping it stays dry today but I’m not too sure. Here are today’s tasks, remember to only do what you can. The literacy task has all week to be done.  Have a good day!

Literacy – Comic Strip

This week, we should like you to watch a DVD of your choice and take notes while you are watching it.

Then, we should like you to create an amazing comic strip to retell the story you watched. This should on a piece of paper and divided into little boxes with each box telling a different part of the story. Or on computer using a drawing package or creative typing. You have a few days to do this so enjoy the movie with your family and popcorn and then make up a fabulous Comic Strip. Have fun.

Numeracy – Games

I have attached some games that you can do with your family. If you can’t print the games off just write the numbers on a piece of paper for the ‘4-in-a-row’ game and write out the sums for ‘Emoji code breaking’. Use coins or make some simple counters using paper. You don’t need to draw the emojis- just write out the numbers. Unfortunately the answer sheet is attached for the code breaker but please don’t look at this part. 4-in-a-row game Emoji code breaking

‘Hit the Button’ on Topmarks. Choose which 3 times tables you want to practise but try those you find particularly tricky.

PE – Workout

Complete the following – 50 star jumps/40 mountain climbers/30 lunges/20sec plank/10 push ups.

Well done to everyone that is doing the workouts and staying active. It is very important for your wellbeing.

Todays Assignments Mon 18th

Good morning P4B, I hope you had a nice weekend. Here are today’s assignments, only do what you can and don’t worry if you cant manage everything. Have a great day!

Walliams – Very smelly dragon (To end)

Blyton – Hare and the tortoise (To end)

Wilson – Get a parrot/Steg and the tar pit (To end)

I have been very impressed with recent BugClub work so keep this up!

Numeracy – Times Tables

Snap Game – Use card/paper to make your own times table snap game. Have one card for the answer e.g. 25 and one card with the sum e.g. 5×5. You can mix as many times tables as you want and make as many cards as you want. Try and keep the cards the same size and make sure they match up with another card.

1. Pass out the cards to the players and make sure they are all mixed up

2. First player puts down their card e.g. 25 and the person that has 5×5 would put theirs on top. You go round each player in turn to put down a card. Anyone who has the matching card can put it down, they don’t need to wait for their turn.

3. The winner is the first person to get rid of all their cards

IDL – Climate

Write down why climates change in a few bullet points- add to your research from last week. You can add illustrations and diagrams to your research for a more professional look. Use this video to help.

Begin to keep a weather diary for the week. Try to complete as many of the columns as you can- look up the weather forecast on the internet for help (today’s weather forecast) and complete the table. weather_diary
