Chinese New Year Celebrations

Annanhill Primary has participated in a weeklong celebration, celebrating the Chinese New Year – The Year of the Dragon. Our week consisted of a range of different activities from writing your name in Chinese, to creating dragon crafts, making Chinese lanterns, and many more.

Our infant classes were visited by Miss Ho, our Mandarin teacher where they learned simple Chinese greetings and a Chinese New Year song.

The children celebrated Chinese New Year during our weekly assembly where they watched a video from our former Mandarin teacher Holly where they got to see her hometown of Chengdu which is home of the panda and learned how to say Happy New Year in Mandarin.

Working with our campus colleagues in the modern languages department, our primary 5-7 pupils took part in a Chinese-inspired activity day with many exciting experiences including a chopstick challenge, making an origami dragon, dragon photobooth dress up, and Chinese shuttlecock.

Our Chinese-inspired lunch was a bit hit and the children loved learning to use chopsticks and enjoyed tasting prawn crackers.

To conclude our celebrations, the whole school came together to showcase their Chinese dragons and watch the dragon show during a parade.

A great experience for all children to learn about different cultures and world celebrations.
