P7W

During Science Week, P7W looked at what influences reaction rates. We focused on how the smaller the particle size the faster the reaction rate. We used vitamins and timed how long it took for them to dissolve. We created a scientific investigation report to show our findings.

We also looked at how Gummy Bears change over time in water. Look at the size difference!

P7W ran a stall at the Community Night and sold Easter cards and decorations. Huge thanks to Br, R, J, F, B, M and Ni for helping at the stalls- true naturals!

P7W led an assembly linked to Children’s Mental Health Week.  We shared our learning about the brain and how our behaviour communicates how we feel. We discussed personal experiences of the three stress responses; Fight, Flight and Freeze. I am so proud of everyone for their maturity and confidence performing at both assemblies.

As part of our topic, we explored popular toys in the 1980s and compared them to the toys we played with.  Huge thank you to N and F for bringing in a Glow Word and a Pogo Ball. Etch a Stetch and Simon Says were very popular.

Happy World Book Day from P7W! We enjoyed going to see Mr Smith MBE up in Grange. He read some of his own book and shared his musical talents.

Huge Congratulations to our Burns Competition Winners. I am extremely proud of everyone who had the confidence to perform our poem ‘Tam O’ Shanter’ and song ‘Auld Lang Syne’.

As part of Burns Day, we looked at a product design lesson. Using the colours, patterns and textures on the Scottish product we created pop art backgrounds for them. They turned out amazing!

When learning about DNA and Inheritance, we looked at inherited and non-inherited characteristics and created offspring monsters based on their parents.

We looked at safety and hygiene in the kitchen. We have become more confident in risk assessing.

Some real-life context for our Money topic in Numeracy. We had food budgets for Disney World,  took on the role of a football manger picking a five-a -side team and working out the wages and salaries of the characters from ‘Friends’.

We have been learning BSL and challenged ourselves with a BSL wordsearch.

We went on an Alliteration Walk near Annanhill Park. We of course had to do some quality assurance of the equipment. We came back and enjoyed some pancakes with a variety of toppings.

Chinese New Year Celebrations. Huge thank you to Grange teachers and pupils and Miss Cunningham for organising some great activities.

We were learning about the structure of DNA using some sweet treats. We were learning about the coding of bases and  the double- helix structure.

Happy Birthday Rabbie Burns! We loved trying various Scottish treats and rating them.

We love Blooket in Primary 7. We concluded our China topic and introduced our new topic- The 1980s. We also enjoyed using the ThinkUKnow website to educate ourselves on internet safety.

Well done to our winners of our Christmas Scavenger Hunt! We enjoyed searching for clues and using our ‘Super Computer’ to solve the clues!

Our Leavers Hoodies have arrived! Can you tell we love them! We also had a visit from Santa and he absolutely approved!

We had a VERY busy Christmas period in P7W.

  • Took part in our first Transition session with the Grange Maths department.
  • We created some Grinch Hands using Oil Pastels
  • We designed some pop out Christmas Tree Cards
  • Enjoyed our annual pantomime at the Palace Theatre
  • Danced and sang at our Christmas Party
  • Enjoyed a visit to Mrs McLeod at the Central Evangelical Church to take part in various activities.
  • Enjoyed a movie afternoon watching ‘The Grinch’

As part of our China topic, we used clay to create some Terracotta Warriors and used our Chromebooks to support some map reading and atlas tasks.

We have been exploring how to use watercolour which has supported various art projects. Painting is always enjoyable in P7W!

Some more sensory play in P7W. We loved making some rainbow toast which helped us concentrate on our SumDog competition!

We worked in groups to design and create birds nest in the school garden. Which one is your favourite?

Gymnastics was very popular in P7W! We are a talented bunch!

Soft start activities in P7W.

Happy Halloween from all at P7W!

We have been exploring some skills based learning linked to Pixar’s Big Hero 6 and the Global Goals. Some activities include: building a bridge using kinetics, coding, film observations and superhero costume design.

Active literacy and writing activities. We really value the chance to share ideas and discuss in our groups.

As part of our Divided City novel/ West of Scotland topic, we made some ‘Jeely Pieces’ following instructions and taste testing.

In primary 7W, we enjoyed making some Cloud Dough as a sensory experience. We certainly enjoyed some messy play.

We love using playdough to help with our spelling.

Amazing work coming soon on our P7W blog! Stay tuned! Amazing Work

Term 3 Overview – Curriculum overview T3

In term 1 P7 will be re-acquainting themselves with the most important components of numeracy; place value, adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing.  Then we’ll explore rounding before looking at negative numbers later on in the term.

We’ve combined one of our novel studies (Divided City by Theresa Breslin) and expanded it into a whole topic that will look at religion, culture and history in the West of Scotland whilst also incorporating learning about sectarianism and prejudice from the context of the book.  Our writing tasks will, for the most part, take their inspiration from this learning too.  In spelling, we’ll continue with our Active Literacy Programme as usual.

In PE we’ll be looking at team sports and possession games; we hope to play basketball, hockey and handball during the course of the term.  For Health and Well-being we’ll be completing our well-being webs and looking at the importance and development of friendships.

We’ll continue to develop our basic French vocabulary so that we’re as prepared as possible for the move up to Grange Academy next year.

We’ll be getting familiar with Chromebooks in ICT as well reconnecting with Teams, Bug Club and Sum Dog.  Once that’s up-and-running we’ll attempt some coding towards the end of Term 1 too.

RME will look at various aspects of religions across the course of P7, starting with Islam in Term 1.
