Victorians- Queen Victoria Fact Flap Book

Today we created these fact flap books all about Queen Victoria.

We used tessellation skills to draw 7 hexagons and cut them out to look like a flower with attached petals.

We did a line drawing sketch of Queen Victoria in the centre of our flowers using a portrait found online.

We brainstormed facts we knew about Queen Victoria and shared information with each other!

Lots of skills development from across the curriculum on display here!

Equivalent Fractions

today we investigated EQUIVALENT FRACTIONS!  we used a packet of skittles and counted how many we had in total to find the denominator.  Then we organised the skittles by colour to find the different numerators.  We used multiplication skills to create equivalent fractions that have the same value as the original.

We then created a proper fraction using a domino.  We used multiplication skills to create equivalent fractions for our domino!

Play based Maths

We have been learning about Number and Number processes this term.

So far we have investigated determining the value of a number using each digit’s place value, alongside multiplication practise and problems.

Today we completed some fun, hands on activities to embed our learning around place value.

We used brain flakes to create structures of different values.  Each colour represented a different value and we had to count up what each structure was worth and add the digits to the place value chart.

We also used the base 10 materials to build “Place Value Palaces” and again, had to count up the total value of our structures.  We got rather competitive with who could build the biggest value!

We also had lots of fun playing rounding shuffleboard!  We had to choose a number from the noticeboard, then glide he puck across the floor to see if we had to round the number to the nearest 10, 100, 1000 or 10000.
