Whilst P3-6 were on a Stranraer Academy visit, our P7, P1 and P2 pupils came together for a fantastic Reading Buddies session. This gave everyone the chance to share books, build confidence and practise important reading strategies. We explored predicting what might happen next, asking good questions, making connections, and summarising stories. Some groups even tried synthesising ideas to create new understandings. P7 pupils also took on the role of
Today, Primary 7 students at St. Joseph’s had a fantastic opportunity to participate in a British Sign Language (BSL) workshop led by our wonderful partners from SCILT, Karen Faulds and David. The session kicked off with an introduction to finger spelling, where students began by learning the vowels before moving on to consonants. This hands-on approach helped our learners get comfortable with the foundations of BSL and appreciate the beauty
This week our P5–7 pupils braved the rain for a special outdoor Wild Writing lesson. Even though the weather was wet, we wrapped up, headed outside, and explored the playground with a writer’s eye. The children were challenged to look closely at the world around them – trees swaying in the wind, flowers dotted with raindrops, moss, seagulls, even the vans parked nearby! Armed with their senses, they gathered ideas
Thursday’s whole school assembly was a very exciting one – our P7s gave their House Captain presentations and we officially launched all our pupil leadership groups for the year ahead. 👏 First up were the House Captains: This means our Vice Captains are Ross and Myra – and together, our five Primary 7s will be leading their houses with enthusiasm and teamwork. ⭐ 💡 Pupil Leadership Groups We also got
The final day of the school year at St Joseph’s was filled with fun, laughter and memorable moments shared by pupils, families and staff. The morning began with a performance of ‘Get Richer’, a play written and produced by our senior pupils. It was a great opportunity for them to showcase their creativity and teamwork, and it was enjoyed by the whole school. In the afternoon, Mrs Jones continued her
We are absolutely over the moon (or should we say… over the clouds ☁️) to share some incredible news with our school community! Earlier this year, we took part in the Skyward Challenge, a national fundraising campaign run by Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) to help raise money for their brand-new H145 air ambulance helicopter. As part of the challenge, we raised funds during our Summer Fete, bringing in around £30 to support this fantastic
On Friday, we celebrated our final Wider Achievement Day of the year with a very special Partnership Day alongside our friends at Portpatrick Primary – and this time, we went to visit them! The sun was shining as we arrived at Portpatrick Primary, where the children from both schools met and mingled, excited for the day ahead. From there, we walked together to the putting green, where everyone enjoyed a
Our Primary 6 and 7 pupils had an unforgettable morning out on Loch Ryan, joining Portpatrick Primary’s P7 class for an exciting watersports session with Stranraer Water Sports Association (SWSA). 🌊🛶⛵ Even though the skies were grey and the rain came and went, that didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits. The pupils took part in two brilliant activities and gave both their all! We continue to provide wider achievement experiences for our
On Thursday, our Primary 5–7 class set off on a wonderful adventure to the one-of-a-kind Garden of Cosmic Speculation, just outside Dumfries, joined by our friends from Portpatrick Primary’s P5–7. 🚌💫 Thankfully, the weather was warm and dry, and the rain stayed off all day, giving us the perfect conditions to enjoy the beauty of this fascinating garden.
