Parental Involvement and Engagement
For many years, Dumfries and Galloway schools have been surveying their parents, seeking their views on many aspects of school life and using this information to make improvements. This is a central feature of school improvement planning, providing opportunities for parents to share their experiences of engagement with the school and contributing to priorities for the school going forward.
The census is taking place online using the SmartSurvey platform which offers many benefits including the secure collection, management and deletion of data. Indeed, preparations for the census have been rigorous to satisfy data protection legislation.

P5/6 – K’nex challenge
Joshua and Struan represented Sheuchan Primary in the K’nex Challenge. Their challenge was to build a model that could fly. After a very successful build, the boys came in a very respectful 3rd place. Well done boys!
A Fisherman’s Tail
On Tuesday, 3rd March our school was entertained by 4Front Theatre who performed ‘A Fisherman’s Tail’. All pupils thoroughly enjoyed listening to James, John, Andrew and Simon telling the children the story of how they became the disciples of Jesus, the stories of Jesus and his miracles as well as why Jesus was crucified. Children enjoyed the songs, story line and laughed at the funny parts. Thank you to Stranraer’s Baptist Church who brought this wonderful show to us.
P2 – Farm Visit
P2 visited Balgracie Farm at Leswalt last week as part of their topic on Scottish Farming. They met with Farmer Drennan who took them around his farm and spoke to them about the different animals he had on the farm. The children asked lots of interesting questions but by far their favourite part of the day was jumping on the cow beds in the big barn!
P3 – Symmetry and Tessellation
Before the February break, P.3 were exploring symmetry and tessellation. The children were creating their own symmetrical pictures using numicon and using Top Marks website to sort symmetrical and non-symmetrical shapes. They also had to complete the shape so it was symmetrical. They also tried tessellation (or Tiling) where we covered a surface with a pattern of flat shapes so that there were no overlaps or gaps.
P2 – Auchtralure Farm Eggs
John and Elaine, the owners, came in and spoke about the process of egg farming. Pupils then had the opportunity to prepare their own egg sandwich. They boiled the Auchtralure farm eggs and then had to shell the eggs by themselves and then cut and mash the egg up to put in their sandwich!
